Plenty is seeking a Senior Grower who will coordinate all aspects of growing processes as well as assist in cross departmental activities in a modern, high-technology hydroponic farm.
 About the role: 
The Senior Grower will coordinate our efforts aimed at optimizing all aspects of hydroponic growth through routine growing activities, including team management, plant handling, and analysis and collection of environmental and production data. A basic component of the position will be the ability to consistently deliver on several high priority projects simultaneously and assist all Farm Development-Operations teams in a wide range of different activities.
 What you'll do: 
This will be a hands-on role where you will be managing grow processes and/or teams, monitoring and controlling plant nutrition and health and operating and managing high-intensity plant production equipment
 
Senior Growers steer a variety of farm-wide and laboratory activities, including monitoring, data collection, experimental testing, cross-departmental projects, as well as basic laboratory tasks such as cleaning and maintenance of tools
 
Create and update SOPs as we standardize and scale practices
 
Work closely with the R&amp;D and Farm Dev-Operations Teams to improve all aspects of plant growth

Self-directed and motivated individuals with extensive plant science, horticulture, integrated pest management, crop production, plant nutrition, agronomy or related backgrounds to assist in a wide array of activities in plant growth and product development
 
Minimum 4+ years experience working in greenhouse or production environment. Direct hydroponic plant production experience preferred
 
Knowledge of plant material functionality, plant biology, and plant biochemistry a plus
 
Understanding of basic experimental design, scientific method and statistical design and analysis
 
Experience with common data collection, analysis and documentation tools
 
Ability to implement and manage multiple projects simultaneously

 About Role
 In this role you will collaborate with growers across Plenty's network of farms to define operational goals, standard operating procedures, and team culture. You'll coach and train staff to hone skills and become exceptional growers. Finally, you'll collaborate with Engineering and Plant Science to ensure that Plenty's development projects incorporate growers' requirements, insights, and feedback.
 What You'll Do
 
R eview, analyze, and drive improvements in growing operations . Specifically analyze seeding, transplant, grow-out, and harvest operations. Develop or maintain processes in these areas.
 
Set cross-farm grow team goals around yields, loss rates, cycle times, and other growing metrics. Meet or exceed company targets.
 
Participate in the selection of Head Growers and other growing staff at new farm locations.
 
Lead the creation and implementation of growing-oriented training courses. Implement programs to ensure growers receive updated training as necessary.
 
Collaborate with Engineering, Computer Science, and Plant Science team on the selection and implementation of new growing equipment, software, crops, and other tools or techniques.
 
Oversee company-wide nutrient management program.
 
What We're Looking For
 
Bachelor’s or higher degree in horticulture, agronomy, agriculture, or related field
 
15+ years work experience in greenhouse, indoor farm, or similar Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) operation, with at least 3 years at a Master Grower level or higher
 Experience with multiple types of hydroponic, aquaponics, and/or aeroponic systems, including NFT, DWC, and/or vertical towers
 
Clear written and verbal communication skills
 
Experience leading teams of 5-20+ people of a variety of backgrounds to outcome
 
Experience with fertigation and climate control technology typically used in CEA
 
Possesses attention to detail
 
Willing to travel 10-15 days per month
 
Valid passport/ability to travel internationally and obtain a visa

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to communicate verbally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication may be required. Sitting or standing for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Job also requires manual dexterity
Some heavy lifting may be required. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and laboratory equipment. Must be comfortable operating and troubleshooting scientific and packaging equipment.
Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of problems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job is performed indoors in a traditional laboratory setting. Exposure to chemicals and laboratory agents is expected. Protective safety clothing, goggles, gloves, facemasks, or hat are required as needed. Activities include extended periods of sitting or standing and extensive work using laboratory and packaging equipment and machinery.
