Job Description:

Under the direction of the Manager of Miner Wellness, the Wellness Coordinator will assist in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of comprehensive wellness programming for S&T students, with a substantial focus on alcohol and other drug education for Residential Life, Greek Life, and Athletics. The successful candidate will utilize a socio-ecological model approach to guide prevention efforts that will serve to enhance student learning and support the mission of the institution.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for selected components of the Miner Wellness program, primarily comprehensive alcohol and other drug initiatives
  • Chair and lead the campus Prevention Coalition and guide the strategic planning process
  • Develop and deliver health promotion programs to the campus community and ensure appropriate evaluation of all programs
  • Provide alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco consultations to students using a Motivational Interviewing approach
  • Provide training and support to student peer educators
  • Serve as a health/wellness resource to campus community and serve on campus committees
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments
  • Create marketing materials to promote Miner Wellness programs and services
  • Prepare reports for grants

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public or Community Health, Health Education and Promotion, Student Affairs, Psychology, Sociology, Higher Education or related field required.
  • Equivalent of two years of progressively responsible work experience in a wellness/health education position or combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication and public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated understanding, commitment to, or experience with underrepresented groups and initiatives that enhance inclusive environments is required
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred
  • Background in alcohol and other drug education, with demonstrated competency in harm reduction, multi-systemic interventions, and health education theories
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and student organizations on developmental and preventive outreach projects
  • Experience in developing strategic goals, measurable outcomes, and program evaluation for health promotion programs
  • Knowledge of current and emerging issues regarding wellness, learning, and higher education
  • Experience developing social marketing and social norms campaigns, using social media, and application of technology to health promotion
  • Certified Health Education Specialist or Missouri Credentialing Board certification preferred
