Large, private estate located in west central Connecticut seeks a full-time, year-round, Horticulturist to oversee the production of over 300 varieties of vegetables and small fruits for use on the estate. The ideal candidate will take pride in growing the highest quality produce as we increase our volume to meet the needs of local farm-to-table restaurants. The owner has a passion for plants and is very involved in the development of the gardens and land.
Responsibilities
Coordinate all aspects of vegetable and small fruit production
Ensure a bountiful harvest over as wide a season as possible
Prepare and distribute weekly harvest list for the owner and restaurateurs
Implement an Integrated Pest Management plan – as close to organic as possible
Ensure garden areas are impeccably maintained
Maintain detailed records
Coordinate deliveries to local restaurants
Instruct interns during their vegetable rotation
Qualifications
B.S. in Horticulture or related field preferred
Requirements
A passion for plants, positive attitude, and ability to attain very high standards
Excellent time management skills with great attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Must be energetic and adaptable with strong problem-solving skills
Ability to lift 40 lbs. and withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions
