Job Description:

Pauley Construction is looking for an experienced Utility Locator in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Must have at least one to two years of experience in utilities location, working with excavation crews and contractors and be able to work independently. Experience working with Underground Construction is preferred. This is a full-time; FLSA Non-Exempt, benefits eligible position reporting to the Planner & Scheduler.

At Pauley Construction, our mission is to focus on the needs of the broadband, telecommunications, CATV and electrical industries.

Examples of the duties performed (illustrative only):
Meeting with contractors for ticket review and documenting all conversations.
Inspecting work sites; verifying locations, addresses and area of excavation
Identifies all sources of utilities and refers to records
Uses conductive or direct hook up to locate underground utilities
Sweeps areas for all utility sources and marks them as required and needed.
Measures and sketches each utility.
Explain in detail to the excavator(s) what requirements are for digging around a client’s facility.
Obtain appropriate signatures from excavator.
If work being performed is at risk to clients business or facility, the tech will advise the excavator to stop digging until proper precautions can be taken to prevent any or further damage.

This job has no supervisory duties

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
1-2 years of experience in utility location or similar role/position
Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities of the position.

Desired Education/Experience Requirements:
Experience with 811 service process
3-5 years of experience in utility location or similar role/position

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as measurements of distance, proportions, percentages, area, and circumference.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers and vendors.

Other Requirements:
Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed.
Must be minimum of 21 years old to drive company vehicles/operate company equipment
May include working nights and holidays.
May be required to travel in state as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate.
Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust; adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds in a shift.
