Job Description:

The Urban Farm Grower assists the Urban Farm Manager in all aspects of the farm production, and works closely with staff in areas related to long and short-term program development, management and evaluation. The Urban Farm Grower is supervised by the Urban Farm Manager and meets for weekly supervision and programmatic assignments.

Typical functions include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for all farm-oriented tasks from soil preparation through harvest under the direction of the Urban Farm Manager.
  • Assists the Urban Farm Manager in the daily management and with the administrative tasks of the ReVision Urban Farm.
  • Assists in the management of crops, adhering to organic, sustainable farming practices.
  • Assists Urban Farm Manager in crop and market planning.
  • Assists with Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) production and delivery.
  • Assists in running farm stand, farmers markets, and restaurant/grocery sales.
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteers and outside groups.
  • Assists with ongoing progress reports and evaluations of all participants.
  • Provides on-the-job training and supervision to job trainees as assigned by the Urban Farm Manager.
  • Works in multi-disciplinary team approach with case managers and other shelter staff to enhance training for individual participants.
  • Operates agency vehicles
  • Works a flexible schedule, including weekend days/hours during the growing season.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous course work and/or experience in agriculture preferred.
  • Commitment to addressing food access in urban areas.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a safe driving point of 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, or 03.
  • Previous experience working with homeless adults, substance abusers, or the mentally ill preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside in variable weather conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft products
  • Current First Aid, CPR and CPI certification or the ability to complete within 90 days of employment.

Schedule/Days:
  • Full-time: Monday – Friday (40 hours/week) 8am-4pm some evening and weekend work
