Tissue Culture Technician

The Tissue Culture Technician will be part of a well-coordinated production team and will be responsible for culturing cannabis plants for commercial production and the set-up and operation of complex equipment in a clean room environment using good aseptic technique.

Essential Functions

• Collect nodal stem samples for use in micro-propagation of cannabis.
• Prepare and culture nodal stem samples
• Keeping detailed accounts of all activities, research and observations
• Calculate and correctly log data and provide full reports on research findings that may include unusual growth, abnormalities, disease or general cellular composition.
• Operate sensitive tools and instruments used for research, technicians are required to calibrate, inspect, clean and adjust tools accordingly.
• Must be able to perform laboratory processes using aseptic technique
• Must keep all work stations clean and organized

Work Environment

This job normally in a laboratory setting environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.The noise level in the work environment can be loud, tight corners and work spaces. Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers and pollen producing environment. Work time expectation: 80% of time will be physical labor, 5% training and misc.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some examples are: lifting up to 50 pounds, some work with hands above head, bending over for extended period, and working in tight, dusty, cold, hot, spaces, etc. Working with hazardous chemicals will be associated with this position.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. (Subject to Change)

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• At least 2 years of specialized training from a technical vocational program or an associate's degree in applied science or science-related technology
• Strong understanding of biology, including plant and animal organisms and their tissues, cells and functions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of chemistry, understanding chemical interactions' impact on organisms.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Effective time-management skills and ability to multitask.
• Experience in laboratory settings and/or processes.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment
