Job Description:

The Tissue Culture Lab Director will lead the initiative in developing and managing a cell culture program for Dalwhinnie Farms. Dalwhinnie Farms is a state-of-the-art indoor cannabis cultivation facility located in Ridgway, CO at the base of the San Juan Mountains. Candidates must have experience in plant cellular biology with emphasis on establishing cell culture protocol with various cannabis cultivars. The candidate should exhibit excellent organizational skills and the ability to deductively reason their way through problems in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. A firm grasp of plant culture methodology will be needed, which includes laboratory safety, media preparation, embryo rescue, plant and callus culture techniques, and plant or callus culture transfers. As the Lab Supervisor, candidates should be expected to support the Research and Development team in the development and implementation of new media preparations, culture production timelines, and any other cell culture techniques that are needed at Dalwhinnie Farms. The ideal candidate must desire the small mountain town lifestyle and working in a rural location.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to consistently produce large batches of plants from culture to meet production demands for the facility and sale
  • Start-up and routine maintenance of multiple callus cultures among various cultivars
  • Ability to maintain plants in growth chambers and establish protocol for plant acclimation in the greenhouse and indoor growing environment
  • Works with the R&D team to move plant tissue into the laboratory environment for storage or manipulation
  • Capable of designing and manipulating various media formulations to achieve the needed cell differentiation across a wide variety of cannabis cultivars
  • Ability to maintain a clean room environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once while keeping detailed project notes
  • Ability to train technicians in needed laboratory skills with minimal supervision
  • A drive to develop and implement SOPs for the Tissue Culture Laboratory while continuously refining and developing the program
  • Can excel in a fun corporate culture that has high expectations of staff
  • Strong intellectual curiosity about cannabis

Other Employment Requirements:

Bachelor degree required in Horticulture, Biology, or other Plant Science-based studies

Ability to travel

Minimum of 5 years of commercial tissue culture production or management experience

Computer proficiency skills including METRC, Excel, Word, Google Docs, Slack and Trello

The ideal candidate will have no felony convictions
