Job Description:

Summary

The Technical Writer is primarily responsible for supporting the organization’s innovative vision by creating, editing, and designing documentation, company policies and procedures, guides, handbooks, and other documents to support the efficient and compliant operations of TGS Management and its subsidiaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with supervisor, staff, and stakeholders in small group settings to execute company mission statement and to establish and implement the Executive Officers’ vision through written documentation, digital communications tools, and oversee all corporate communications policies
  • Understand the complexity of compliance requirements governing our businesses, including the following types of regulatory agencies: Marijuana Enforcement Division, Fire Department, City Zoning and Planning, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and more
  • Responsible for reading and interpreting regulatory requirements and legal text to relay information to stakeholders
  • Responsible for legal compliance with all regulatory requirements by creating, designing, and deploying written documentation, including but not limited to legal guides, handbooks, company policies, standard operating procedures, application materials, warnings and disclaimers, training curriculum, and manuals
  • Proofread and copyedit all Marketing/Design Department projects
  • Responsible for supporting company sales and marketing plans by coordinating with the Marketing/Design Department to create website content including informational articles, product descriptions, marketing and promotions content, and other written sales materials
  • Support Human Resources in training and recruiting efforts by writing and editing job descriptions, employee handbooks and manuals, training curriculum and training materials, memos or other documents, as needed
  • Support Wholesale Sales by creating sales copy and other business-to-business communications for concentrate processing and sales to licensed facilities
  • Perform research, conduct field interviews, site observations and reporting, and complete other information gathering to develop written documentation
  • Adapt to a variety of working environments with ability to gather information from a range of employees with varying technical complexity from entry-level to expert
  • Perform extensive online research, including researching government websites, including city, county, state, and Federal agencies in an efficient and logical manner
  • Synthesize complex, technical information into easy-to-read and user-friendly content
  • Responsible for creating and accessing documentation using a variety of software applications and operating systems
  • Maintain library of manufacturer equipment manuals
  • Execute editorial vision of written materials to ensure consistent voice, style, and adherence to company policy and all regulatory requirements
  • Participate in updating or adapting corporate writing style guide
  • Responsible for maintaining company standards for file naming conventions, corporate library organization, and other document handling
  • Help coordinate events and off-site marketing, as needed
  • All other tasks and job duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communications, English, Journalism, Communications, or equivalent field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another technical field, with strong writing skills, also considered

Training

  • Must maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all policy and regulations of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED); Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and TGS Management

Required Skills & Experience

  • Excellent computer, mathematical, language, and reasoning skills
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with current versions
  • Technical skills to include digital file maintenance and handling, uploading, downloading, file conversions, file naming conventions, and document storage
  • Familiarity with word processing, design, database, point-of-sales, and web-based software applications
  • Excellent influential, collaborative, and relationship building skills
  • High-level attention to detail

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of advanced Microsoft Word features, such as Styles, Field Codes, and Custom Tables of Contents
  • Understanding of basic printing, binding, and publishing needs as they relate to document security and distribution
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles, such as seasonal campaigns, social media marketing, search engine optimization, and ability to write compelling sales copy helpful
  • Understanding of advanced technical systems, such as secure networks, backup servers, point-of-sales systems, surveillance and monitoring systems
  • Retail, operations and/or sales experience a plus
  • Experience working or volunteering in a library beneficial
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with shifting workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Colorado marijuana laws, MED regulations, and CDPHE requirements; Previous marijuana industry experience preferred with priority given to candidates with experience in CO licensed facilities
  • Cannabis industry experience preferred

  • Must be able to individually lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time

Work Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an office environment with moderate to loud noise level
  • Must be able to work off-site in retail, manufacturing, or production facilities with moderate to loud noise level and changing working conditions. May require use of safety equipment or personal protective equipment, as needed.
  • Must be able to acquire MED Support badge ($75 Fee to State of CO) prior to beginning employment

Travel Requirements

  • Occasionally requires local travel, as needed.
