About the role:

The State Government Affairs Director will be responsible for the dynamic work of ensuring state-level legal access to FDA-approved cannabinoid medications, and supporting the work of the Greenwich Market Access Team to obtain positive coverage conditions for our portfolio. The Midwest Director will cover 12 states (IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, OK and WV) and lead the advocacy, legislative and regulatory work within each state.


Responsibilities:

  • Determine existing state laws and regulations, as they pertain to the scheduling, legalization and commercialization of both prescription and non-prescription cannabis products.
  • Pursue necessary administrative actions or legislation to ensure an FDA-approved cannabis product can be dispensed for appropriate patients.
  • Identify, build plans and execute in response to, business challenges from legislative and regulatory lobbying strategies before state governments.
  • Act as a liaison to both Washington, DC-based and state-based government, trade and political organizations.
  • Introduce Greenwich to State, Federal and Local leaders to build positive relationships prior to and throughout market introduction.
  • Build a long-term, relationship-based advocacy network comprised of Greenwich’s core constituencies capable of advocating on any issue: policy or business.
  • Facilitate Greenwich’s interactions with State Medicaid administration departments.
  • Develop and execute against strategic initiatives that recognize the unique nature of Greenwich’s cannabis portfolio, are consistent with business objectives, and leverage state and federal relationships for optimal success as we enter the U.S. Market.
  • Work with all Greenwich business units to develop policy positions and strategies that support Greenwich as a leading pharmaceutical organization within the US state capitols with state government officials.
  • Build out political engagement plan in strategic markets (state and federal), including relationship development with Governors, Legislative leadership, Medicaid State Directors and Regional Payer leadership.
  • Continue strategic alliance development with critical advocacy organizations with an emphasis on The Epilepsy Foundation and its state affiliates.
  • Begin 2019 legislative cycle preparations for necessary legislative and regulatory activities focused on the launch of Epidiolex and Greenwich’s future portfolio.
  • Ensure organizational leadership is aware of PHARMA and other organizational initiatives and how they impact the Greenwich Biosciences’ business.


Required Experience:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech organizations
  • A minimum of 5 years political or government affairs experience
  • Preferred experience in team management and leadership
  • Strong familiarity with the state legislative process
  • Understanding of Medicaid, commercial payer and provider relationships
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
