Our fast paced and dynamic vertically integrated cannabis company is looking for a sharp, strategic minded and experienced Senior Accounting Manager to join our team!
The Senior Accounting Manager directs and organizes all general accounting activities of the accounting staff. This role ensures that the organization’s accounting systems are in control and takes necessary steps to minimize risk to the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Provides oversight and guidance to accounting personnel at various locations throughout the organization including CA, Nevada and New Jersey.
- Assists in the preparation and research of technical accounting transactions.
- Assists in the preparation of the Company’s quarterly 10Q’s and yearly 10K.
- Maintains the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions; reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with the company’s and established accounting principles; controls all changes to chart of accounts.
- Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing of the general ledger including preparation of journal entries.
- Administers preparation of interim, year-end, and comparative financial reports; performs and provides analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget. Prepares required government reports as directed by the Controller and responds to inquiries as necessary.
- Stays current with developments, practice trends, and promulgations in the accounting profession; monitors accounting systems and recommends new or revised policies and procedures.
- Assists the Controller in training and management of accounting staff.
- Reviews monthly bank and cash on hand reconciliation for all accounts; verifies accuracy of bank statements and resolve questions or problems; maintains integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
- Responsible for review of payroll journal entries and monthly payroll accrual entries.
- Reviews fixed asset records and reconciliations; determines depreciation terms/rates to apply to capitalized items.
- Assists the Controller in coordinating the year-end financial audit and preparing schedules and documents for independent (third-party) auditors.
- Maintain other accounts and performs other accounting duties, as required or requested by the Controller.
- Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or another closely related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in public accounting.
- Minimum 3 years of management experience.
- Prior experience as a Senior Accounting Professional for large companies or those with particularly fast-paced complex organizational structures.
- Requires the ability to work independently with substantial latitude for action and decision making, while focusing on achieving optimal outcomes as part of a collaborative development effort.
Special Requirements/Certification:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.

- Possesses thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); with experience in consolidated financial reporting.
- Strong background in all areas of accounting, to include general ledger, monthly financial closing, quarterly and annual SEC filings and SOX auditing procedures.
- Prior experience with ERP and accounting systems (i.e. QuickBooks, Financial Force, Oracle, SAP, etc.).
- Must be a self-starter with a strong sense of self-development.

- Knowledge and understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within accounting.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to accounting practices.
