Job Description:

Summary: Responsible for all aspects of seedling production, including seed sowing, germination and finishing seedlings for both internal use and sales to customers. Responsibilities also include limited vegetative propagation responsibilities at certain times of the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities are to grow the appropriate Quantity of plants to Quality Standards by the Ready Date. Other duties may be assigned.

People:

Supervise, manage, train seed technicians and growing staff

Coordinate staffing needs with Growing, Production and /or Human Resources

Rotate responsibilities within the growing department as directed by Growing Operations Manager

Crops:

Supervise the sowing of seeds according to production plans while recognizing and responding promptly

to germination issues.

Assign seedling locations in greenhouse, keeping crops with compatible cultural needs together as is practical

Manage germination room and greenhouse environment to meet specific cultural requirements of the crops being

produced.

Supervise and or transfer seedlings to appropriate environments as needed

Manage crop culture to include but not limited to environmental controls, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease

controls, pinching /trimming plants to achieve quality standards on ready dates using Argos programs

Determine and apply or supervise application of chemicals / biocontrols based on observation, Crop Health Scouting

reports to control insects and diseases. Supervise and or apply applications of growth regulators in conjunction with

crop needs and or quality specifications of crops.

Processes:

Manipulate Argus controlled environment system for overall crop culture

Operate equipment to complete tasks, including but not limited to seeders, tractors, sprayers, power washers, etc.

Evaluate and report inventory accuracy for location, quantity, quality, ready dates and yield percentages

Following consultation with Production Planning and Inventory Control (PPIC), take appropriate action (for

example, re-sow) if yield is low

Interact with PPIC to review production and sow schedules; modify as needed to meet quality specifications and

on-time delivery

Maintain the computerized seed inventory in meeting sowing needs while managing purchases of required materials

To provide appropriate crop culture, attend training opportunities at tradeshows and continuing education classes,

read industry magazines, trial products or techniques with grower managers approval

Maintain greenhouses in safe, clean and orderly condition; report conditions that require repair to Maintenance in a

timely and appropriate manner.
