Job Description:

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Support manufacturing and cultivation operations by providing oversight on all scientific processes. Execute R&D plan and support development / refinement of scientific processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, refine and validate analytical methods.
  • Troubleshoot issues with scientific equipment and processes.
  • Execute and assist in development of R&D plan.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party quality assurance labs to ensure analytical method alignment.
  • Develop novel cannabinoid formulations.
  • Aid with new product development.
  • Serve as in-house expert on HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, and related equipment.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for analytical and scientific processes.
  • Maintain analytical equipment, perform regular preventative maintenance and quality checks.
  • Assist in the set up and maintenance of new laboratories as new facilities come online.
  • Keep organized record of allprocedures and results.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Keep a detailed laboratory log, dating and recording all tasks performed and relevant results.
  • Perform weekly safety-checks of fire-extinguishing equipment, eyewash stations and shower stations. Attends safety meetings as required.
  • Perform other functions as necessary to provide an adequate supply of product to meet patient demand.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Chief Science Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacology or a related discipline. Fastidious attention to detail is required. Superior writing ability is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication may be required. Sitting or standing for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

Some heavy lifting may be required. Exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and laboratory equipment. Must be comfortable operating and troubleshooting scientific and packaging equipment.

Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of problems.

WORK ENVIRONEMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional laboratory setting. Exposure to chemicals and laboratory agents is expected. Protective safety clothing, goggles, gloves, facemasks, or hat are required as needed. Activities include extended periods of sitting or standing and extensive work using laboratory and packaging equipment and machinery.
