JOB DESCRIPTION
Working in collaboration with the senior director of analytics, the regional quality laboratory manager will serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for the standardization of analytical testing and consistency in the laboratory.

The position will support new locations and laboratory build outs, serve as the point of contact for laboratory information management system (LIMS) issues, support ISO 17025 initiatives, and partner with the management team to achieve key performance indicators (KPI).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the laboratories in the Eastern region of the US are meeting goals and manage assigned employees.
  • Strategically prioritize assignments and assure completion, accuracy, and communication of results in a timely manner.
  • Develop and support a training program for analytical employees. Coach staff in equipment/method troubleshooting.
  • Work to be the Subject Matter Expert in state regulations for any assigned facility and communicate the information to stakeholders.

  • Under the direction of the senior director of analytics, improve methodology for the quantitation of cannabinoids, terpenoids, pesticides and residual solvents across multiple platforms/instruments that comply with all regulatory, customer and laboratory requirements.
  • Provide analytical support of new product development and establishment of product specifications.
  • Ensure all analytical systems, documentation, results and testing maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Work with compliance and quality assurance to ensure accurate analytical information is provided.

  • Lead the buildout and management of analytical laboratories which includes but is not limited to: ensuring current good laboratory practices (cGLP), support of laboratory safety and EHS programs, and partnering with other laboratory managers and the senior director of analytics to continuously improve the processes.

  • Ensure that a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is implemented and compliant with legal and cGLP.

  • In cooperation with the ISO Director, ensure implementation and maintain necessary programs and processes to achieve ISO 17025 compliance and accreditation

  • Work collaboratively with Quality and Manufacturing groups to ensure KPI metrics are achieved.

  • Provide expertise to troubleshoot, maintain and validate analytical instrumentation across all manufacturing and extraction platforms.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
Work is typically carried out in an analytics laboratory. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals in the laboratory. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, lab coat, closed toed shoes and, in the plant, a hard hat. Library work is required. An employee in this position works in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. Strict adherence to corporate and/or plant policies, rules and regulations in these areas is required.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work may be flexible, but are generally Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime and weekend hours may be required to complete tasks.

Travel
Travel will include visits to other manufacturing and/or analytical locations within the company. Travel to assist in the setup of new facilities will be required.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field with at least 3 years of regulated laboratory experience
  • Two years of experience in managing cGLP laboratories.
  • Three years of experience working in an accredited environment (TNI, ISO, NLCP, etc.)

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in chemistry and/or a scientific field with at least 3 years of regulated laboratory experience
  • Analytical experience in the cannabis industry
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation (GC, ICP, and HPLC both with and without MS)

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
This position does not approve visa requirements, H1-B sponsorship, special clearances, etc. Submittal and clearance of drug and background screening to meet Company Policy expectation.
