Curaleaf NY (subsidiary of Palliatech, Inc.) is a rapidly expanding, multi-state medical cannabis company dedicated to the needs of its patients. We are seeking a talented and motivated Chemist familiar with cGMP guidelines to become part of our team of professionals in a dynamic and rapidly growing organization. The Chemist supports the laboratory manufacturing team by performing day to day tasks associated with downstream processing of medical marijuana products including extraction, filtration, and distillation. The chemist duties will also include activities associated with product formulation covering a wide range of dosage forms that ensures high quality products The Purification/Formulation Chemist must monitor and maintain production laboratories in accordance with the state of New York and the standards set by PalliaTech NY.
Responsibilities:
* Operating various laboratory equipment involved in the manufacturing process.
* Accurately completing batch record documentation in accordance with GMP guidelines.
* Writing manufacturing documents and preparation of reports.
* Performing development work, collate information, facilitate the transfer of technology to production; liaising with production to ensure smooth transfer of information.
* Preparing for production by reviewing production schedule; studying and clarifying specifications for purification; calculating requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extraction.
* Accurately recording essential information in databases, communicate findings, and aid in generating analytical reports under strict timelines.
* Operating highly sophisticated extraction equipment; Processing concentrates and extracts
* Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations; monitoring environment.
* Operating, calibrating, maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment such as pumps, balances and centrifuges.
* Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment, and preparing requisitions as needed.
* Storing supplies and equipment, disposing of waste per state regulations, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate.
* Washing and sterilizing laboratory glassware.
* Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, and filing.
* Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
* Supporting the QC analytics laboratory as needed
* Performing and assisting in other duties, responsibilities, or projects as needed and directed.
* Training employees on the extraction and refinement processes.
* Accurately enter inventory within state run inventory tracking system (BiotrackTHC)
* Assist with filling and packaging as required
Job Qualification Requirements:
* Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Must not have been convicted of any felony offenses pursuant to state statues.
* Knowledge of cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Experience working with scientific laboratory equipment and knowledge of scientific methods of measurements
* Advanced knowledge of process equipment and operations with experience creating and revising process documentation
* Bachelor’s Degree preferred/ 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Knowledge of and hands on experience with supercritical extraction, rotary evaporation, decarboxylation, winterization and distillation desired.
* Experience conducting downstream processing and oil refinement highly desirable
* Strong mathematics skills
* Analytical with the ability to collect and interpret data
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi task and prioritize competing demands
* Ability to comply with established safety standards for the proper use, safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes.
* Experience effectively using computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories recordkeeping procedures.
* Must be able to work in a challenging fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong attention to details.
* Ability to train co-workers.
Physical Requirements:
* Must be able to stand for long periods of time, along with frequent bending.
* Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
* Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in a science field (chemistry, biology or physics preferred) plus 2 years of experience working in a regulated environment
