Scope
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Purchasing Manager to join our growing cannabis organization. This position will be responsible for managing day-to-day purchasing activities by performing cost analysis and benchmarking, monitoring and forecasting levels of demand, and determining quantity and timing of deliveries, to ensure dispensaries are adequately stocked at all times. The Purchasing Manager will create budgets, perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals, and find more profitable suppliers. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with outstanding negotiation, organizational, and communication skills to efficiently oversee purchasing for fast-paced dispensary operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day purchasing activities by monitoring levels of product and proactively purchasing to ensure dispensaries are adequately stocked, at all times.
- Establish standard operating procedures for purchasing; monitor the effectiveness of procedures; revise and improve purchasing processes.
- Collaborate with retail locations to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and then maintaining those levels.
- Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
- Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and develop new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.
- Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business.
- Comply with finance processes and corporate guidelines.
- Draft, review contracts, and modify terms and conditions.
- Oversees the inventory audits performed by inventory agents at all locations.
- Ensures all invoices are properly received and processed.
- Exercise discretion and judgment.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of progressive purchasing experience in a retail environment. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
- At least 2 years’ experience managing people in a fast paced environment.
- Must have extensive cannabis product knowledge and a willingness to learn more as the industry evolves.
- Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management.
- Interest in market dynamics along with business sense.
- Skilled at negotiation and networking.
- Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
- Solid judgement and sound decision making skills.
- Proven history of developing effective inventory management policies required.
- Internal candidates must have been in their current position for at least six months and have no disciplinary actions during the last six months.
- Lift and carry a 45+ pound case of product on a repetitive basis.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, over nights and some holidays
- Must hold themselves and others accountable to company expectations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, QuickBooks, and the ability to learn new database systems with ease. Experience with Biotrack and Metric is a plus.
- Must be able to obtain required licensing at time of hire and submit personal information for licensing and fingerprinting.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
