Cannabis Processing Technician II
Position Description
Cannabis Processing Technician II is a production ‘lead’ position expected to participate more heavily than Cannabis Processing Technician I in the management of employees, oversight of the process, technical decision-making and client outreach. This position will be asked to engage more frequently in troubleshooting of the process and the maintenance/repair of essential equipment. Serves as a resource to other cannabis operators, answering questions as they arise.
Cannabis Processing Technicians primary responsibilities are the production of highly refined, medicinal cannabis extracts for the legal market. Technicians will work cooperatively under the direction of their managers to extract, winterize and distill cannabinoids from bulk cannabis plant material grown at the facility. They will be expected to follow standard operating procedures, to perform and understand light chemical processing of extracts into bulk, isolated cannabinoids.
Additionally, processing technicians will formulate infused cannabis distillate with terpene blends, prepare other medicinal products such as tinctures, and package products as required by clients. These products include, but are not limited to, vaporizer cartridges, tablets, tinctures and edible products.
Minimum Requirements
- Laboratory or mechanical expertise required (1+ years)
- Applicant must be at least 21 years of age, be able to pass a background check
- Has or is eligible to receive a cannabis worker’s permit in the state of Maryland
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be comfortable in chemical environments with compressed gasses, solvents and reagents
- Bachelors or equivalent degrees in chemistry and the sciences preferred, but not required
- Prior management experience a plus, but not required
Knowledge
- Prior knowledge of extraction and cannabis processing, a plus
- Chemistry knowledge such as common measurement procedures or use of laboratory equipment
- Basic mechanical, construction and/or shop knowledge such as the use of hand tools
- Comfortable in chemical environments with compressed gasses, solvents and reagents
- Familiarity with safety protocols in manufacturing environments, such as personal protective equipment
- Familiar with safe chemical and waste handling procedures
- Competency in algebra and arithmetic. Computer skills, a plus.
Responsibilities Include
- Becomes fluent in every step of the process and its motivation to serve as a technical resource for other employees
- Oversight of Processing Technician I position during normal operation
- Operation and maintenance of cannabis processing equipment such as ethanol extractors, vacuum pumps, ovens etc.
- Following and documenting step-by-step procedures and manager instructions
- Preparations for production such as grinding of plant material
- Documentation of batch records, processing procedures
- Ensuring glassware, tools are clean
- Maintaining a clean work area
- Weighing products and mixing solutions
- Transferring gasses and solvents between vessels, monitoring pressures and temperatures
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $16.00 to $20.00 /hour
