Summary/Objective

Responsible for developing and managing a world-class Cannabis breeding program at MedMen to obtain successful cultivars with desirable traits in collaboration with other scientific and agronomy functions. This position will provide leadership, strategic vision and operational excellence in trait based Cannabis breeding technologies in advancement of company’s goals. Foundational knowledge of plant breeding and genetics and demonstrated experience in trait based cultivar development are essential.This position will supervise the work of Plant Breeding and Molecular Genetics staff and will be responsible for the program’s budget.

Leads the creation and evaluation of breeding populations
Advances the utilization of modern breeding technologies and tools to identify, characterize and incorporate genes of interest for key traits
Plans and executes the hybridization process, evaluation of progenies, analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data and reporting of breeding trials
Make selections/hybrids advancement decisions based on key performance indicators
Utilize all relevant breeding technologies with appropriate allocation of resources directed at the successful development of commercial products for key market segments
Through engagement and collaborative interaction with breeding technology communities, identify, research, and eventually apply those to your breeding program that enhance breeding program effectiveness and efficiency
Working collaboratively with the Agronomy team, contributes to the optimization of desirable traits
Leads cross-functional teams as needed to to successfully develop and deploy new hybrids of interests
Establishes guidelines, protocols & training for Plant Breeding and Molecular Genetics department and its employees
Supervises breeding and molecular genetics department employees; trains and advises Agronomy staff about cultivar development processes and work in coordination to continually improve the same
Works collaboratively with all Agronomy team members, including occasional visits to cultivation locations

Travel

Occasional visits to production facilities is expected for this position

Required Education and Experience

Must be at least 21 years of age
PhD. in plant breeding and genetics, or related degree, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated cultivar development experience
Training and experience in molecular biology, statistics, plant physiology, pathology and biochemistry as required to perform strongly as a plant breeder
Knowledge of quantitative genetics, functional genomics, genetic statistical theory, and experimental design as it is applied to plant breeding
Leadership skills building teams in a highly collaborative environment
Strong process management skills

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

There is no visa or H1-B sponsorship. Must successfully complete and pass background and drug screen, and live scan.
