Part-Time Research Assistant

The position will start at the beginning of August 2018 and will continue for an initial period of one year or while grant funding lasts.

Assists in running a research laboratory in human cognition for the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), transcranial electrical stimulation, and studies of addiction including nicotine and possibly opiates and cannabis, and general human subject testing and administrative duties.

Administers behavioral testing with magnetic resonance imaging to human subjects, both healthy and drug dependent. Administers behavioral testing with transcranial electrical stimulation to human subjects, both healthy and drug dependent. Processes and analyzes human behavioral, electrical neural stimulation, and MRI data using specialized software packages. Maintains and processes records regarding human subject participation, informed consent, regulatory compliance, billing, and payment. Tracks equipment and supplies and orders as needed. Maintains lab resource scheduling.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree with 15 hours of coursework in psychology, cognitive science, physics, neuroscience, or related discipline and one year of experience (can be part time), either during or after undergraduate study, in a psychology or other human research laboratory.

Computer expertise, excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills, ability to be trained to perform careful and precise procedures, and work with a wide range of people.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with linux/unix. Prior experience with computer programming and electrical engineering.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Requires some physical effort (e.g., operating equipment) but is mostly mental effort (e.g. attention to detail, prioritization of tasks, communicating to a variety of individuals.)
