We are a cannabis company currently seeking a Full Time Packaging and Distribution Manager for our Lab.

Job Title: Packaging and Distribution Manager

Reports to: Laboratory Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervisory Responsibility: Assistant Packaging Manager, Packaging Leads and Packaging team

Position Summary: The Packaging and Distribution Manager will provide leadership and work flow expertise to optimize existing packaging procedures to drive value and build a competitive advantage as related to packaging and distribution. This position will manage processing, packaging, supply oversight, inventory control, quality control and sales logistics. This position will collaborate extensively with all laboratory managers and with all functions within the supply chain to ensure timely completion of assigned packaging projects within the specified time, cost, and quality parameters set by company and industry standards. The manager will utilize best practices to assure that product and package integrity is maintained throughout our distribution environment. He or she will ensure that deadlines and deliverables are consistently met and proactively communicate as changes arise.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage, supervise and direct the activities of the packaging department
  • Staffing, training, development & performance evaluations
  • Create, develop and utilize all resources to provide training programs and new employee orientation
  • Lead, coach, and develop cultural efforts of the organizations
  • Production & staff scheduling
  • Establish standards for packaging, shipping, and logistical procedures.
  • Write, edit and review SOP’s
  • Assist in implementation of GMPs
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy for all team members in weighing, labeling, packaging and distribution
  • Ensure product packaging follows all Colorado cannabis labeling requirements
  • Inventory tracking and oversight
  • Complete specified reporting responsibilities for all packaging processes as directed by management
  • Coordinate order fulfillment, shipping & receiving of finished packages while supporting the logistics team
  • Supports the efforts of the production manager to ensure available inventory supports the production plan/schedule
  • Source specified products and/or vendors to achieve a better quality or price
  • Identify and carry out process improvements, ensuring supplier and company goals met or exceeded
  • Collaborate with production manager, sales team, research & development, manufacturing, and quality assurance in addressing quality and servicing needs of customers
  • Based on packaging and supply par levels, ensure ordering inventories achieve the desired turnover ratio
  • Responsible for in-time supply ordering and ensuring purchases are made at competitive price points while minimizing out/shorts or high-priced purchases
  • Manage and execute multiple projects at various stages with shifting priorities, and extremely tight timelines
  • Analyze existing operations while constantly optimizing overall efficiencies as related to packaging by collaborating cross functionally throughout the organization
  • Understand, interpret, and refine packaging procedures to meet local, state, industry and company standards
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement and rapidly expand new best practices across the packaging department
  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities of multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff
  • Recommend packaging/distribution methods and/or improvements based on company needs and resource capabilities

Job Specifications

  • Required to be on-call and to respond to emergency situations at any time. This may include scheduling issues, potentially covering a vacant shift, facility issues and/ or human resources requirements.
  • Attend and participate in The Lab’s continuing education programs up to and including management training and development classes.
  • Participate in developing and implementing policies and procedures to advance The Lab’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Advanced knowledge of METRC, Colorado cannabis regulations and internal databases as it pertains to the department.
  • Must follow the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in accordance The Lab’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives in all areas of their work.
  • Effectively create, develop and utilize all resources to provide training programs and new employee orientation
  • Knowledge of general management principles and practices.
  • Knowledgeable in CAPA methodologies in relation to good manufacturing practices; analyzing problems, identifying solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of products and the time required to manufacture, package and distribute.
  • Ability to research, evaluate and adapt to new product lines, compliance updates and techniques for operational improvement.
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment appropriately.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, governmental agencies, community members and the public.

Additional Requirements:

  • Colorado driver’s license or State ID card
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must pass all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
  • Must be approved by the MED to receive a key badge

Competencies:

  • Self-starter who sets priorities and drives deliverables to execution with high autonomy
  • Strong problem solving, and analytical skills must generate actionable options for solving problems

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Associate/bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Lean manufacturing/production knowledge
  • Proven success in a fast-paced environment, working independently
  • 2 – 5 years managerial experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years proven experience in packaging, distribution and logistics
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
