Job Description:

Xabis is seeking a self-motivated and systematic team member who can help develop, manage and execute a production facility in the medical marijuana industry. The individual needs to excel within an independent framework and communicate effectively with management and operations. The talented team member will be responsible for developing and optimizing unit operations related to supercritical solvent extraction, crystallization/filtration, distillation, and chromatography. They will also lead initial efforts in product formulation and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving capabilities, excel under stress, and strive for efficient and timely reporting.

The OpS1 is responsible for executing all operations regarding production of finished phytopharmaceutical products, meeting the strict regulations specific to the Texas Codes. Specifically, the OpS1:

  • ensures that all activities are performed safely and in strict accordance with company guidelines; maintains product and company reputation by complying with governing regulations.
  • executes standard operating procedures (SOPs) covering all aspects of processing and manufacturing operations (including safety, environmental, and compliance) in accordance with state and local regulatory requirements.
  • operates the primary extractor process; performs maintenance on high-pressure extractors and support equipment; responsible for startup and shutdown processes of production.
  • performs multi-step product purification processes which may include filtration, distillation, and chromatography.
  • creates intermediate products with precisely tailored characteristics for final product manufacturing.
  • builds products for distribution; configures manufacturing equipment for production runs; dispenses bulk ingredients and blends for final product form and storage; cleans manufacturing equipment and facility.
  • packages and labels products according to strict regulatory practices; builds and tracks shipments to customers.
  • keeps laboratory clean by collecting, disposing of, and logging all hazardous and non-hazardous waste; cleaning of all processing equipment and the manufacturing facility; maintenance of glassware cleaning process.
  • manages inventories needed in production process; manages all materials generated throughout production.
  • maintains meticulous records for all processing and manufacturing steps.
  • collects all hazardous/non-hazardous waste generated by processes and transfers to appropriate collection areas.
  • identifies and implements new technologies and methodologies to improve operations workflow and product quality.
  • interacts with client to discuss results, educate team, and help with marketing needs.
  • adheres to GMP, ISO and NELAC laboratory practices
  • communicates with management team on status of operations; writes technical documents (protocols, manuals, SOPs, white papers, etc.).

Employee Qualifications

Operations Specialist 1: Experience operating mechanical/chemical systems and processes (reactors, machine tools, control systems, etc.); Experience in a production plant, manufacturing operation, and/or product development recommended; knowledge of engineering and physical sciences necessary; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Responsive problem solver and action oriented; Strong team mentality; proficient using PCs and common applications; Must hold an B.S. in a physical science or related engineering field; Knowledge of the cannabis industry; Experience with ISO17025, CLIA or similar certification process a plus. Must pass an extensive background security check and must be able to obtain a Texas Operations Badge – prior to or at the time of hire.
