Overview:
The News Editor stays in-the-know about the fast moving news and trends in the cannabis world. This person has a passion for keeping an eye on legislative movement and developments in research and has a keen understanding of how to execute coverage priorities. As a major player in this emerging industry, we have an opportunity to help define the market landscape and we invite you to help in that effort.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee production of Marijuana.com’s Law + Politics and Science + Medicine verticals
- Field pitches from freelancers for consideration by the Managing Editor
- Create tickets and assign stories and deadlines to freelancers in JIRA
- Ensure submitted content meets the publication requirements of Marijuana.com, serving as a first edit for all submitted work published under these verticals
- Recommend additional writers for recruitment
- Contribute regular features for publication and fill coverage gaps when necessary
- Lead production of assigned multimedia content initiatives
- Request and schedule photographers, videographers and other resources to develop original multimedia content
- Assist in the development of plans for series coverage and investigative reporting initiatives
Qualifications:
- 3+ years on a content production team
- Experience in news revolving around political and regulatory environment surrounding cannabis
- A portfolio of work that shows progressive responsibility in content production and promotion
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices in news coverage for large-scale publications
- A Bachelor's Degree in writing, communications or marketing
Pluses:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with WordPress
- A Masters degree in journalism, communications or related field
