This is an exciting opportunity to work in the emerging and fast paced environment of cannabis laboratory testing. The successful candidate will be a Microbiology Technician at our new headquarters in Santa Ana, will report directly to the Laboratory Manager and will be responsible for all steps involved in sample analysis for state mandated compliance testing of cannabis products.

This position requires knowledge of molecular biology or microbiology techniques, specifically cell culture, DNA/RNA isolation and qPCR. Experience with chemistry and separation sciences, specifically wet lab techniques and some familiarity with instrumentation utilized for cannabis testing (LC-UV, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-MS) is preferred. Some experience with development, optimization and validation of molecular biology or microbiology methods, specifically in relation to detection of microbial contamination is required. Prior lab experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs microbial testing on samples – pathogen analyses using primarily PCR methodology and other various pathogen detection methods (for instance cell culture, plating and enumeration)
  • Characterize and identify microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella and fungi in samples.
  • Develop, validate and perform robust qPCR assays for the identification and quantification of microorganisms in samples.
  • Develop, modifies and maintains appropriate SOPs relating to microbial testing.
  • Perform sample processing, data analysis and data review for all analytical methods as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized, and efficient laboratory work environment.
  • Remain up-to-date on all SOPs and maintain documentation required for compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory for ISO/NELAC accreditation standards and future audits.
  • Work on projects assigned by lab management and work in collaboration with other technicians.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology, cell culture and sterile technique is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate must have some familiarity with the following instrumentation: PCR, LC-UV, LC-MS/MS, GC-FID, ICP-MS. Candidates with qPCR and microbiology experience will be given preference.
  • Exceptional wet laboratory technique and ability to perform documentation for ISO / NELAC standards.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment is preferred.

Salary: $16.00 to $19.00 /hour
