New laws in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia allow for applications to be submitted to the Board of Pharmacy for the commercial cultivation, production and manufacture of medicinal cannabis products.

We are looking for a highly organized and motivated individual for Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO will safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments. The right person will be able to manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash payments and disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, inventory integrity, general accounting, cost accounting, human resources, operations, etc. This position can be base in Maryland, Virginia or West Virginia base on winning licenses.

The successful candidate would be granted equity in the company in exchange for any assistance that may be required during the license application process. It would not be necessary to be based in any of these states but desire if a current resident of the state we are applying for licenses submit resume. During the application period the candidate could / should maintain other employment during this phase. Roles / responsibilities at this stage would include but are not limited to the production and / or review of various sections of license application, liaison with designated facility designers and equipment manufacturers and provide all guidance and support to the Management Team as required during this phase of the project.

Upon successful award of the license and permit the company will provide assistance to the successful candidate for relocation. Suitable local accommodation would also be provided for the first 2 month in state awarded the licenses to allow the successful candidate time to adjust.

Job Responsibilities

  • The position will work closely with the CEO and will oversee all areas of accounting and financial reporting, including payroll, revenue recognition, tax compliance, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and related policies and practices.
  • The CFO will be responsible for implementing systems, controls and other policies and procedures to be compliant and to ensure the integrity of all financial data.
  • The ideal candidate would also have the ability to handle corporate governance and contract administration.
  • The CFO will ensure timely and accurate preparation, analysis and presentation of all financial reports, statements and tax returns/filings on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • The CFO will also direct financial planning, budgeting, financial analysis and ensure compliance with state and federal state laws and regulations and GAAP.

Qualifications

  • CPA or similar certification with a Bachelor in Accounting and/or Finance
  • 5+ years’ experience as a hands-on CFO working closely with an owner/CEO
  • Demonstrated competence with QuickBooks Online
  • Advance knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrated experience with Pro Forma financial and Cap tables
  • Strong aptitude for research and problem solving
  • Ability to work under pressure and consistently achieve required deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to details and proactive approach
  • Ability to create, review, and maintain contracts
  • Cannabis industry experience a plus.
