The Opportunity

The Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Office Assistant in the Licensing and Administrative Division. This position is located in Seattle, WA.

The Licensing and Administrative Division (LAL) is comprised of 16 attorneys and 12 professional staff that are located in the Olympia and Seattle sections. The Seattle LAL section houses seven attorneys and three professional staff. The division provides legal advice and litigation services to two large clients, the Department of Licensing and Employment Security Department. LAL also represents multiple boards and commissions including the Liquor and Cannabis Board, Board of Accountancy, Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, Lottery Commission, Commission on Judicial Conduct, and Executive Ethics Board.

Duties

In support of the mission and values of the Attorney General's Office, in a legal setting and under close supervision, this position independently performs a variety of complex clerical and basic technical legal assignments such as: routing and/or filing legal service documents with the proper authority; performing case docketing functions; performing data entry into legal databases; and, preparing basic legal correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology, policies, and procedures. This position will also open and sort mail, answer the section main line phone, log and prepare invoices for litigation costs, order and keep supplies stocked, and manage record filing, storage, and retrieval.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performing general clerical work and basic technical legal assignments;
  • Opening and closing litigation files;
  • Preparing, finalizing for signature, and filing legal documents and correspondence per assignment;
  • Filing, data entry, and organizing files for Legal Assistants;
  • Keeping copier and file room clean and stocked;
  • Reserving and setting up conference rooms, conference calls, and equipment;
  • Reviewing, routing and processing all incoming mail and legal messenger deliveries; and,
  • Correspond with clients and others on gathering documents or information.
Qualifications

Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment.

Option 2: One year of legal office experience.

Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience.
