Lead Research Scientist: Cannabis / Hemp Cultivation and Processing
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
M&F Talent Partners is looking for an experienced research scientist to oversee laboratory operations at a Southern California cannabis / hemp cultivation and processing facility. The ideal candidate is a PHD-level graduate (or study) in the organic sciences and has formal laboratory work experience.
Responsibilities
- Analyze biochemical, microbiological, and molecular biological properties of hemp and cannabis plants / flowers
- Grow and maintain pant tissue cultures
- Develop pharmaceutical grade extract products
- Test phytochemicals and plant-based products
- Create new SOP’s relating to efficient laboratory work
- Master and control all equipment in a laboratory-type environment, including CO2, light hydrocarbon, liquid solvent, and solvent-less extraction methods
- Execute extraction and processing in accordance with state and local standards
- Ensure consistency of product through quality control testing and procedures
- Manage laboratory as defined by state guidelines and GMP’s (good manufacturing practices)
- Formulate chemical analyses of bioactive compounds relating to cannabis / hemp
- Prepare scientific reports for management
- Ensure that laboratory is consistently sterile and operational
Requirements
- PHD (or PHD study) in Biology or similar subject
- 5 years of professional experience in laboratory environment
- Management experience (small team – laboratory)
- Expert understanding of plant tissue culture procedures
- Proficiency with organic extract processes
- Experience developing SOP’s and GMP’s for laboratory operations
- Ability to create and explain statistical data analyses
- Cannabis / Hemp biology and cultivation knowledge a plus
