Sweet Cannabis is seeking experienced Lab Technicians to carry out extraction processes at their Portland facility. Sweet Cannabis is an OLCC and OHA licensed processor of cannabis products, including CO2 oil, ethanol shatter and full plant extracts in various forms. The Lab Technician will efficiently and precisely carry out extraction processes to ensure production demands are continuously met. The ideal candidate will exude passion for the cannabis industry, maintain a high level of integrity, and must be comfortable with shiftwork. Reporting to the Lab Manager, the Lab Technician will follow strict Standard Operating Procedures and conduct themselves with the highest levels of professionalism, quality and attention to detail that underpin the Sweet business and culture.

Job Description:

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare biological samples and extract desired chemical components from cannabis samples using ethanol or similar solvents;
  • Efficiently operate industrial supercritical extraction systems and large rotary evaporation equipment according to strict Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Process samples using analysis methods, and refine products (including distillation) according to SOPs, documenting procedures and results;
  • Run bioassays and thin layer chromatography on samples according to SOPs;
  • Maintain database inventory of biological and extracted products; track chemical inventory, record weight and amounts in Metrc and other systems;
  • Conduct general quality assurance tasks such as product testing using HPLC; Update and maintain SDS;
  • Conduct general lab duties including material handling, cleaning of dishes and equipment, and other tasks as required by management.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Oregon cannabis industry and culture, policies and state regulations;
  • Knowledge and experience with supercritical and ethanol extraction processes (Sweet Cannabis does not conduct butane or propane-based extractions);
  • Understanding of Short-Path or similar distillation processes;
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and documentation processes;
  • Solid understanding of the scientific process and its application;

Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office. Metrc experience strongly preferred;
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Strong math and statistical skills;
  • Good communication, oral and written, and accurate reporting skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.;
  • Ability to think analytically and troubleshoot experiments;
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours, climb stairs/ladders and work over head;
  • Effectively operate industrial equipment, manipulate valves and use various tool;
  • Ability to comply with PPE requirements such as respirators and face shields.

Other Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Biochemistry;
  • Must be minimum of 21 years of age;
  • Must possess a valid OLCC Cannabis Handler card or be able to obtain one within 4 weeks of hire;
  • 2 years’ experience in an extraction or processing lab, ideally in a production environment;
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record;
  • Experience in the Oregon cannabis industry considered an asset.
