Title: Laboratory Technician II

Classification: Non-exempt

Reports To: Analytical Chemist

Revision Date: 5/11/2018

The Laboratory Technician II is an integral part of the Analytical Chemistry Team within the Culta LLC precessing facility. The objective of this position is to assist with the in-house analysis of medical cannabis plants as well as processed/extracted medical cannabis products. The Laboratory Technician II performs a variety of scientific and administrative tasks, including participation in the training and direction of activities with the Laboratory Technician I position.

Analytical Tasks

  • Comprehending and executing SOPs for a specific task
  • Maintaining a clean work space
  • Preparation of solvent mixtures used in extraction and analysis of cannabis material and extraction products
  • Preparation of cannabis material and extraction products for analytical processing, including
  • Extraction using solvent mixtures
  • Evaporating and reconstituting sample in appropriate solvent system
  • Diluting samples to appropriate concentrations for analysis
  • Calibrate and check calibration on laboratory equipment (i.e. balances, pipettors, etc.)
  • Execute all laboratory testing according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Preparation of Analytical Standards used for quantitation in analytical sequences
  • Assist with the analysis of samples using HPLC and GC analytical platforms
Administrative and Ancillary Tasks

  • Assist with record keeping on Analytical Laboratory activities
  • Assist in laboratory maintenance and cleaning
  • Clean and maintain glassware
  • Work with Analytical Chemist to ensure laboratory supplies are ready and in stock
  • Organize and store analytical samples and chemical substances
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed
  • Receive, label, organize, and store samples of cannabis material and extraction products
  • Recognize and report any quality or safety issues in the laboratory
  • Assisting in gramming and packaging processes as requested
  • Assisting in the delivery process as requested
Work Environment

  • Generally 8 am – 5 pm with additional hours as needed (weekends and nights)
  • Working hours will be spent in the lab
  • Moderate daily physical activity including lifting, walking, and standing
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and be able to bend, push, and reach
  • Safety gear and proper PPE required as outlined in SOPs for each task

  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and analytical techniques
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Strong desire to work in analytical laboratory with complex and sensitive analytical equipment
  • Prior experience in an analytical laboratory and/or analytical equipment is desirable
  • Must be over 21
  • Must be able to pass State of Maryland and FBI background checks
