Job Duties:
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory activities; work with laboratory personnel to ensure that they have the resources needed to maintain high quality testing while keeping turn-around times to a minimum.
- Train laboratory technicians and chemists on the correct use of laboratory equipment.
- Monitor and supervise employees to follow industry standards and health & safety regulations for handling and disposing of samples.
- Develop and implement SOPs; work closely with the Quality team to assure method and SOP compliance.
- Review of instrument test data including but not limited to GC and HPLC chromatographic data.
- Manage laboratory costs related to all operations activities including equipment, labor and supplies.
- Manage and oversees the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. This includes daily maintenance tasks to ensure instruments are working properly, scheduling preventative maintenance and working with technology support from various vendors.
- Think critically to resolve unique issues revolving around a shared work environment and helps to maintain an environment of collaboration and creativity.
Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience with progressive experience in management with multiple direct reports.
- Innate ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experience.
- Ability to administer a proactive management approach with a keen sense of attention to detail.
- Strong ability to provide leadership, support, communication and direction to laboratory technicians, as well as other personnel.
- Highly experienced in handling multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond routine issues.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously working with multi-disciplinary teams from laboratory techs to senior and executive management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Word with the ability to summarize work succinctly for reporting to clients and management.
- Strong background in chromatography and mass spectrometry REQUIRED (HPLC, GC, ICP).
- Strong experience with microbiological, VOC, pesticide, heavy metal, and/or mycotoxin testing methodology.
- Proficiency with chromatographic data processing and review.
Education and Experience:
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Life Sciences or a M.S. degree in Chemistry or Life Sciences with 2+ years of experience in a research or industrial laboratory setting.
