The Role
GTI is seeking an experienced Lab Manager for our Carson City Processing Center, opening Late Summer 2018. The Lab Manager directs, manages, motivates and provides administrative support to the activities and operations of the lab department. This individual manages internal resources, develops/reviews standard operating procedures, and ensures product meets patient expectations. The Lab Director also participates in the training, development and education of production facility staff members and supervises all Marijuana Infused Products (MIPs) lab staff.
Responsibilities

Ensures the processing team safely and efficiently meets the production demand quantity and quality for retail locations

Maintains accountability of all raw materials, finished products and by-products
-
Oversees procurement of necessary supplies and equipment, and ensuring optimum levels of inventory that meet quality standards are maintained
- Exercises authority and discretion concerning operational issues.
- Participates in developing and implementing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to advance the company’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives

Assigns work to the processing team including:

Inventory tracking of all processing material
-
Maintaining, cleaning and servicing laboratory equipment as required by procedures and manufacturer specifications

Maintaining open communication with management team and co-workers
-
Manages, supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff, and make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination and advancement of team members

Assigns staff work and monitor progress.
- Guides, trains and develop team members in the accomplishment of duties and goals

Works with General Manager to oversee daily lab processes including:

Supply ordering

Inventory oversight and management

Follow-up on product issues

Extraction

Packaging and labeling

Documents and continually develops changing internal processes for MIP department

Ensures all standards for processing procedures and laboratory protocols are followed by staff including:

Compliance with local and state regulations

Adherence to quality control methods throughout entire process

Documentation of laboratory standards

Documentation of research and manufacturing methods for future reference

Oversee and manage inventory tracking systems

Continually reviews current system for operational efficiency and update processes as necessary

Responds to emergencies at any time

Reviews training procedures and seek continued education to ensure delivery on all job functions

Follows safety programs and protocols and provide updates as necessary

Manages inspections by governing agencies

Conducts studies, identifies problems, recommends alternatives and implements solutions in coordination with the General Manager
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Horticulture, Food Science, Plant Science, or related field
- 3-5 years of previous lab management experience
- Cannabis experience, preferred
Additional Requirements

Minimum of 21 years of age

Must possess valid driver’s license or state ID
- Must pass all required background checks

Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry

Ability to use standard lab equipment: vacuum oven, hotplate, extractor, etc.

Knowledge of and ability to run a closed loop extractor

Ability to work effectively with team members, management, customers, governmental agencies, community members and the general public
-
Compliance with and enforcement of typical laboratory standards
-
Understanding and enforcement of OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals
-
Ability to research, evaluate and adapt to new methods, compliance updates and techniques for operational improvement

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while maintaining focus
-
May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance).
