Integrated Pest Management Specialist
Job Description
The responsibilities of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Specialist within Garden Remedies broadly embrace the key areas described below. Working with the Director of Cultivation, the IPM Specialist will oversee all IPM activities including identifying insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and controls or eliminates as necessary. This individual will be self-motivated and highly knowledgeable about insect, arachnid and other pest identification and is well versed in organic pest control methods and all related equipment, calibration and application techniques.
Duties:
- Maintains current knowledge of local, state and federal codes and regulations related to IPM in agriculture; oversees adherence to current codes and creates plans to modify or adapt to changes in code or regulations as needed.
- Correctly identifies insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and understands their physiology.
- Creates and implements treatment plans as necessary with a focus on organic treatment options based on current conditions and physiology, including calculating chemical requirements based on area dimensions.
- Operates, maintains and repairs treatment equipment.
- Implements and monitors quality standards; may create and publish reports to all relevant parties in a timely manner as required.
- Implements IPM techniques and methodologies at various stages of plant growth and development, as directed by Cultivation Management Team.
- May participates in harvests, trimming, cloning and other duties to maintain an efficient work flow through-out the facility.
- Assists in the operations of the grow, to include but not limited to set-up, cleaning of pots and equipment, repotting, cloning and all other duties as required.
- Maintains a respectful and business-like work environment.
- Maintains a serious, positive and team-oriented approach to Security, reporting any security concerns or breaches immediately to designated person(s).
Responsibilities:
- Owns the IPM function, maintaining a clean and efficient environment. Effectively identifies insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and creates treatment plans.
- Assists the Cultivation Management Team daily to ensure that whatever that needs to be done within the facility related to IPM is completed in a timely manner.
- Is responsible for adhering to Garden Remedies’ Security Policies and Procedures as well as the MA DPH’s regulations 105 CMR 725.110: Security Requirements for Registered Marijuana Dispensaries.
Qualifications:
- Has 2+ years’ experience with field or greenhouse pest management or a BS degree applicable to horticulture/agricultural IPM for a large-scale commercial cultivation facility.
- Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to engage in creating an amicable work-place.
- Good personal hygiene, physical aptitude and health necessary to perform manual labor.
- The candidate must pass the state required background check and will have a high security clearance within the company.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Supervision:
- Works under the general supervision of the Cultivation managers
- This position is not responsible for supervising other employees
