HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER

Harvest is one of California's leading cannabis dispensary brands with two award-winning locations in San Francisco and bold expansion plans for 2018 and beyond. Due to continuing same-store growth and planned expansion across California over the next several years, Harvest is hiring a Human Resource Manager to assist in creating a dynamic HR program that reflects the company’s modern approach to retailing.

Since first opening in 2016, Harvest has continually transformed how customers shop for and enjoy cannabis with a modern retail experience that appeals to everyone. Women, seniors and cannabis connoisseurs voted the brand one most beautiful cannabis dispensaries in America, a top-10 dispensary in Northern California and "One the best dispensaries to visit with your Mom" (which says a lot about the company’s service and style).

Experience in the cannabis industry is NOT required for this position. The company is seeking a HR pro with extensive service industry experience and wanting to be part of a growing team that helps customers feel great. This position will be based in Oakland and will frequently interact with employees at retail locations across the Bay Area.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish innovative employment ads across multiple recruiting platforms
  • Screen candidates for formal interviewing by hiring managers
  • Prepare offer letters as requested and run background checks on final-stage candidates
  • Verify that all employees that require certification are properly documented and that corporate records are accurate
  • Manage new hire onboarding as well as termination processes; prepare paperwork and communicate to all necessary parties as per defined process
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures
  • Maintain a current knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Ensure that handbook and policies are updated on an annual basis
  • Act as a resource to employees regarding policies, procedures, benefits, and general inquiries
  • Maintain employee data, create and maintain personnel files and department filing in compliance with all state and federal requirements
  • Manage the performance appraisal process. Train managers on the performance appraisal process to set the stage for effective meetings
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions and working with both sides to find resolution of employee relations issues and concerns
  • Leverage and help maintain the company’s HR-related computer systems
  • Schedule periodic employee training programs following an agenda set by management and recruit training talent and other tools required for effective employee education
  • Recommend training and education activities that reflect best industry practices
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation management ensuring that all new injuries are reported on a timely basis to insurance carrier, investigate and aggressively follow up to resolve any outstanding issues
  • Update and maintain OSHA requirements
  • Perform a quarterly census to confirm that the company is compliant with its diversity obligations
  • Author, circulate and enforce new policies desired or approved by management to create a safe, compliant and progressive workplace

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a service industry environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience; HR coursework preferred
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, compliance, immigration and best practices
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong work ethic, people-oriented, team player and excited to increase employee happiness
  • Detail-oriented, organized, able to juggle tasks and prioritize
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
