THE COMPANY

MMAC is a leading vertically integrated cannabis company operating 4 dispensaries and 1 state of the art 30,000 square foot cultivation facility in the greater Los Angeles area. Future plans call for the establishment of both manufacturing and distribution facilities as well as additional cultivation and dispensaries. The company is headquartered in Beverly Hills and employs approximately 100 staff.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer the Human Resource Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate the administrative functions of the HR organization to include recruiting, interviewing of new staff, collaboration with executive management on strategic HR planning and serve as a link between MMAC’ s management and its employees. The manager will establish and document policies and procedures to guide the organization’s implementation of HR best practices that will lead to a high-performance culture and the retention of a superior workforce. Compensation plan development and benefit program administration will be the responsibility of the Human Resource Manager.

Key skill sets include knowledge and experience in HR policy development and documentation, employment law, compensation/benefits, employee relations, safety, labor relations, strong written and verbal communication skills and affiliation with related professional Human Resource organizations.

MMAC largely initiated its operating activities in 2017 and the sourcing of the above referenced position represents the first step toward the formation of a functional HR department to address the needs described above. The person who is selected to serve in this capacity shall be the thought leader to create first approaches with respect to the core responsibilities of the department as well as the initial administrator to undertake the daily duties of the function, including management of the time recording and payroll systems.

BACKGROUND

Minimum of a Bachelor’ degree or equivalent in Human Resource, Business or related major. A minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resource positions to include specialized training in employment law, employee relations and labor relations combined with active affiliations with appropriate Human Resource networks.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the individuals experience and will include both a base salary and bonus opportunity.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the HR Administrator is responsible for providing general HR support with a variety of administrative responsibilities, ensuring complete accuracy and confidentiality. This is an opportunity for an individual with strong interpersonal skills to join a dynamic team in a growth-oriented company.

Responsibilities

  • Perform benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefit information to employees
  • Process and verify new employee paperwork and complete on-boarding process for all new employees
  • New employee on-boarding and assimilation including but not limited to: coordinating new hire set-up, conducting new hire orientation, and communication with new hires
  • Maintaining HRIS system and prepare necessary paperwork for payroll
  • Administrative support to HR and Health & Safety committee
  • Prepare new hire packages, prepare desks, desk phones and prepare basic supply package for first day
  • Maintaining employee files
  • Assists with Corporate events (ie. Happy Hour)
  • Liaise with IT to set-up new desk phones and ordering new equipment for new hires
  • Schedule interviews
  • Coordinating RPIC Applications and fingerprinting
  • Coordinate Security checks for new hires (MyBackcheck)
  • Track mandatory Health & Safety training
  • Assist in coordinating employee training for new hires and temporary employees
  • Liaise with remote sites to coordinate flow of paperwork for HR
  • Liaises with security contact to coordinate new pass cards
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Background

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Human Resources an asset
  • Working knowledge of employment standards legislation and progressive HR policies and practices
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to assess situations not only from an HR perspective but also from a business perspective
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to set and exceed established goals, schedules and deadlines required
  • Strong initiative to take direction, apply learning’s, and execute on requests;
  • Ability to maintain confidential information as it pertains to HR issues
  • Possess advanced level computer skills in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and presentations
