Job Description

The HR Generalist/Payroll Specialist will report to and assist the Director of HR and will assist with all aspects of HR for our employees. The main responsibilities of this position include processing the payroll for our employees, assisting with benefit administrations, maintaining HR information as well as other HR administrative tasks.

HR Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and track employee and applicant documentation
  • Manage and track all employee disciplinary actions
  • Maintains and processes all federal, state and local notices, participates in hearings as necessary
  • Assists with recruitment tasks
  • Assists with onboarding
  • Maintains employee personnel files
  • Reports, maintains, and monitors all workers’ compensation case files
  • Monitors eligibility for benefit plans, processes enrollments, and cancellations, etc.
  • Administers COBRA for group health plans
  • Partner with HR Director to ensure consistency in the application of company policies, procedures, and practices
  • Company advocate for best practices, provide support, counsel, and direction to maintain effective involvement in employee relations activities, including supporting investigations, counseling sessions and terminations
  • Search for process improvement opportunities for the HR function, offer to Director of HR recommendations for improvement or issue resolution

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Own bi-weekly payroll processing/administration, leaves of absence, etc.
  • Initiate payroll paperwork, process change requests, and terminations
  • Guide employees on issues related to payroll, leave, tax status, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or evidence of exceptional ability
  • 3+ years of generalist/payroll specialist experience
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws, statutes, etc. that govern employment laws and practices
  • Significant knowledge of HR/personnel practices and principles, knowledge of applicable labor, pay, benefits, and health & safety laws
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and common sense regarding sensitive employee information
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, but knows when to ask questions or seek advice/opinion
  • Team player with “jump in and help” “can-do” mentality
  • Ability to build trust, maximize relationships, and interact with all levels of staff, from hourly employees to executive team
