Position/Title: Human Resource Generalist

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Summary

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for the professional execution of HR-related duties by working closely with employees, management and executives. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance evaluation, onboarding, recruitment/employment, cannabis employment law compliance and overall execution of company HR goals and directives.

Essential Functions

  • Take an active approach to understanding industry, business and employee issues throughout the organization
  • Ensure consistent administration and execution of HR policies and processes within the department and company.
  • Act as a mediator and conflict resolution expert for disputes between employees within the company, and work with other managers and executives to develop and implement improvements.
  • The HR Generalist must have the professionalism and experience to conduct investigations into employee and customer situations, such as harassment or discrimination claims, with discretion and prudence.
  • Monitor and facilitate employee relations issues as necessary.
  • Record and manage employee information including, but not limited to: personal data, compensation, benefits, tax information, attendance, performance evaluations, termination information and any and all forms or paperwork necessary for employment compliance at both a federal and state level.
  • The recording and management of employee information will require the adept use of database systems for the storage of sensitive information.
  • Take an active role in the recruitment, training and onboarding of new personnel.
  • Capable of compiling and presenting clear reports for senior management when necessary.
  • Active leadership in establishing HR guidelines and procedures as the company expands.
  • The HR Generalist will need to be able to perform a wide variety of tasks and thus must display a stellar work ethic and an ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Attend trainings and seminars to expand knowledge of the HR field, and ensure the Generalist remains current on employment laws, legislation and trends within the industry.
  • Finally, the HR Generalist needs to be an honest and trustworthy individual who can be trusted with sensitive information, and a friendly disposition to encourage an honest and open workplace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with local, state and federal employment law & regulations.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills in the English language.
  • Highly organized with an attention to detail.
  • Proven leader and mentor.
  • The capability and willingness to travel for work responsibilities
  • A “team player” mentality that is complemented by a friendly attitude.
  • A stellar work ethic and “can-do” attitude.
  • Trustworthy as to be capable of handling confidential matters with discretion

Education or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Required. Emphasis in Human Resources or related business field preferred but not necessary.
  • PHR/SPHR highly desirable, but not required.
  • At Least two, but preferably five, years of experience in Human Resources.

Supervisory Responsibility

To begin with, the HR Generalist will be solely responsible for executing the essential functions described above. In the future, there is a possibility of expanding the department and adding assistants and front-line managers as the company grows. Although there will be no direct supervisory responsibilities, the HR Generalist will be expected to act as a coach, mentor and active listener for company employees.

Work Environment

The HR Generalist will be working in an office environment, but some in-state and out of state travel may be necessary in order to execute the essential functions described above.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Human Resource Generalist to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The HR Generalist may occasionally be asked to lift/move objects up to 40lbs, and the position also requires strong visual and auditory skills to ensure the Generalist can process the necessary paperwork and coach employees as needed.

Work Authorization

The HR Generalist must be authorized to work in the United States as either a citizen or a resident alien, and have the necessary clearance to travel across the continental United States, Hawaii and Alaska.
