Report to: Director of Cultivation
Comp: $50,000 to $60,000 base salary DOE plus performance based bonus
Location: Carpinteria, CA
Start Date: July 1st, 2018

The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated HR & Compliance Manager to improve on and manage the existing HR program at our greenhouse operation in Carpinteria for over 30 agricultural employees. The ideal candidate is passionate about agriculture business, excited to be building a new industry, capable of building a positive work environment, experience in HR and personnel systems, and bilingual for communicating with Spanish-speaking employees. The HR & Compliance Manager is responsible for all personnel, HR duties and non-cannabis related compliance items.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment, onboarding and termination of cultivation employees
  • Maintain current and well-organized personnel records and files for all employees
  • Field all employee grievances, mediate workplace issues and maintain all incident reports and records
  • Approve and manage payroll every two weeks
  • Implement employee handbooks and other general workplace best practices
  • Ensure that all compliance postings are up to date

    • Labor law and workplace safety regulations. Host safety meetings and perform other related labor compliance duties.
    • OSHA workplace regulations
    • Assist our Compliance Department with greenhouse facility and premise compliance and regulatory issues related to Department of Fish and Wildlife, State Water Resource Board, Cal Cannabis, etc
  • Work with Director of Cultivation to assess employee morale and implement employee incentives

The candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’ Degree in Human Resources or related business field, or equivalent professional experience in Human Resources field
  • 3+ years’ experience in a human resources management position or other relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to address employee morale and complex HR issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, state and federal employment laws
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and stay organized
  • Experience with office tools such as spreadsheets, documents and other technology.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) communication skills
  • Positive attitude, cool under pressure
  • Passes Livescan background check (no felonies)
  • No recreational cannabis-use is tolerated during work hours.
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Must have legal working status
