Job Description:

An advanced applicant under Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) is looking for an individual with the education, background and experience to become the Head Grower of their facility, north of Toronto. The company is looking for a talented and ambitious individual who has the drive and skill to assist them in developing Canada’s most technologically advanced medical cannabis production facility.

The Head Grower will be responsible for assisting in the design of the facility as well as managing cultivation operations once licensed. 

Job Requirements:

Accountabilities & Deliverables:

  • Participate in and contribute to all facility design and production planning activities
  • Perform and manage all aspects of growing once licensed, including: selection and development of genetic strains and seeds, cloning, potting and transplanting, designing and maintaining nutrient regiments, feeding plants, defoliation, topping, flushing, foliar and preventative sprays, trimming, harvesting, drying, packaging, waste disposal and inventory management
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail to achieve consistently high quality and yield
  • Manage a large-scale production facility, including: ensuring cleanliness of facility, managing budget, cost, performing general administrative duties, and purchasing materials as needed
  • Recognize potential problems and execute corrective measures
  • Manage data collection for accuracy and ensure all tracking is compliant with government
regulations

  • Supervision of inventory to meet the goals of each project
  • Liaise with Facility Manager on timeline for upcoming projects
  • Develop and/or maintain growing protocols and nutrient regiment
  • Manage plant scheduling and organization to precisely project all garden needs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Execute preventative maintenance and ensure an Integrated Pest Management program is in place
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Create and enforce compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Handle all documents and associated responsibilities as they pertain to the receiving of raw materials, propagation, sowing, growing, drying, harvesting, packaging, storage, picking, destroying, shipping and distribution of cannabis
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to avoid recalls or unsaleable product
  • Help to ensure that security measures are maintained
  • Assist in the hiring and training of all production staff
  • Work with Senior Management to plan and develop future production space
  • Assist government regulators and auditors with inspections and audits of facility, operations, inventory, and regulatory compliance
  • Facility maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary
 
Desired Competencies & Qualifications:
  • Production Horticulture Diploma or a degree in Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture, or equivalent would be preferred
  • Strong understanding of genetics and plant care including a comprehensive knowledge of strains (sativa, indica and hybrids)
  • Knowledge and experience with large scale commercial plant cultivation including nutrient
requirements, media, light requirements, temperature control, air flow, etc. and
harvesting/trimming, drying, curing, manicuring
  • Extensive experience in propagation
  • Familiarity with the latest production methodologies, and industry software for production management, recording, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing and harvesting medical cannabis products for consumption (including storage/handling techniques)
  • The ideal candidate should also have a strong expertise in mold and pest prevention without the use of synthetic/commercial pesticides
  • Significant experience with regards to growing room / facility layout as well as expertise with and knowledge of different strains of medical cannabis
  • Experience with operating industrialized indoor grow systems and mastery of soil growing methods (including micronutrients, beneficial bacteria and nutrient implementation)
  • Ability to think in both small and large scales (i.e. both 5,000 and 30,000 square foot facility)
  • The ideal candidate should also have education and/or equivalent experience in a professional or commercial environment
  • Must not have any criminal convictions or arrests involving drug-related offences, (a criminal record check with the RCMP will be required prior to any offer being made)
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage time, set priorities and handle many obligations at the same time
  • Strong verbal communication, leadership and managerial skills
  • Knowledge of Canada’s ACMPR rules and regulations and production requirements would be a valuable attribute
