Job Description:
The Head Grower plans and oversees the planting, cultivation and harvesting of all organic produce commodities. The Head Grower will supervise Growers and coordinate Greenhouse Managers to ensure efficient and optimum plant growth. The Head Grower shall analyze records of the day-to-day operations and determine optimum plant efficiencies as well as be familiar with and able to interact with the automated systems within the greenhouses. The Head Grower will also undertake the research and analysis of horticultural problems and be responsible for the selection, acquisition and propagation of all commodity seeds. Other duties will be assigned as necessary. The Head Grower reports to the Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinate and execute planting, care and harvesting of organic greenhouse production.
- Create and maintain an effective and efficient organic growing environment within all greenhouses.
- Responsible for managing environmental controls via computerized systems.
- Coordinate actions of Growers and Greenhouse Managers.
- Demonstrate and apply thorough understanding of soil and horticultural sciences.
- Apply seeds, plants and organic nutrients as necessary for optimum efficiency.
- Responsible for plant protection including scouting for insects and diseases and deployment of appropriate preventative and curative measures.
- Responsible for submitting soil and water samples, interpreting results and adjusting practices accordingly.
- Responsible for production efficiency standards and harvesting forecasting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Botany / Horticulture / Agriculture (concentration in soil science).
- 2 years of direct work experience in horticulture preferred.
- Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills.
- Ability to conduct hands-on work with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to working in a team environment.
- Computer literate, proficient record keeper and familiar with all laws and regulations pertaining to greenhouse production and food safety matters.
- Experience in Controlled Environment Agriculture.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Maintenance of certified organic standards and supporting documentation.

Salary: $50,000.00 to $60,000.00 /year
