Job Summary

Plan, direct, or coordinate quality assurance programs. Formulate quality control policies and control quality of production efforts. The quality assurance manager is responsible ensuring that the products produced at the manufacturing facility is safe, consistent, of high quality and in the correct quantity. The QA Manager is responsible for auditing food safety and quality programs, he or she is also responsible for and evaluating results of audits and inspections performed onsite by second and third parties. The QA Manager ensures inspection schedules are adequate to control risks to product safety or conformity. The QA manager ensures adherence to customer specifications by commutating internally between departments and acting as a point-of-contact for customers and regulators with technical or food safety questions. This position requires excellent knowledge of the product, as well as strong communication skills to make sure that all employees are fully aware of required procedures and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes methods, tools, and procedures to deliver zero defects from incoming raw materials to outgoing finished goods in a food safe environment.
  • Ensure USDA and FDA regulations and respective plant programs comply.
  • Maintain robust food safety programs (e.g. HACCP, sanitation, pest control, GMP, recall, traceability, verification, HARPC, SQF).
  • Ensure compliance /audit readiness – review all quality systems and policies annually
  • Review food safety and quality management system metrics with the plant leadership team
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is in place to support compliance with policies and procedures
  • Create then review the Quality KPIs on a regular basis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage department budget and costs.
  • Develop, implement and communicate effective product containment program to ensure appropriate control of quality/food safety defects.
  • Execute Food Safety, Quality & Sanitation training on site.
  • Monitor the operating conditions of the facility to ensure compliance with internal, customer, and government standards.
  • Coordinate the validation of processes for sanitation, PPO/Steam pasteurization, and the metal detectors.
  • Review food safety and quality programs of suppliers of food contact packaging, laboratory services, and ingredients.

Successful Candidates Will Have

  • A BS in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or other relevant sciences.
  • Prior food processing experience is required.
  • Certifications in HACCP, PCQI, and SQFP.
  • 5 years of experience in quality control or auditing.
  • Sanitation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts, and methodologies of QMS.
  • Six Sigma Certification
  • The ability to read, write, and understand English. (Without an interpreter)
  • The ability to work in a team environment in a positive manner of respect, cooperation & flexibility.
  • A good work ethic and ability to work independently.
  • A great attention to detail.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing to work weekends as necessary.
  • Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.
  • On call 24 hours a day for emergency situations.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly inside an industrial food grade facility.
  • Smock and hairnet (beard net if necessary) are required within the facility.
  • Occasional outside work is necessary.
  • There is a moderate level of noise while the plant is in production.
