Grower / Greenhouse Manager

The Baddour Center is a model community in Senatobia, MS (NW Mississippi 30 mi. from Memphis on I-55) where persons with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities and autism live, learn, work, worship and play. The Garden Center is located on the Baddour Center campus. We are seeking a fulltime Grower / Greenhouse Manager to manage our greenhouses. The Baddour Garden Center is Proven Winner Certified and historically grows and sells Easter lilies, spring bedding plants, poinsettias, mums, sunflowers and various other types of plants. The core job duties for this position are:

  • Grow horticultural plants for sale to trade or retail customers.
  • Determine types and quantities of horticultural plants to be grown, based on budgets, projected sales volumes, and/or executive directives.
  • Prepare soil for planting, and plant or transplant seeds, bulbs, and cuttings.
  • Select and purchase seeds, plant nutrients, disease control chemicals, garden and lawn care equipment.
  • Maintain watering schedule according to growing cycle and need – water plants and direct other garden center staff who assist with watering.
  • Tour work areas to observe work being done, to inspect plants, and to evaluate plant and soil conditions.
  • Apply pesticides and fertilizers to plants.
  • Position and regulate watering system.
  • Identify plants as well as problems such as diseases, weeds, insects and pests.
  • Confer with and develop external horticultural personnel for advice regarding greenhouse needs.
  • Explain and enforce safety regulations and policies.
  • Assist resident workers with greenhouse duties (placing plant material on tables, watering, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position focuses on the growing aspect of the Garden Center program, and will work in coordination with the Retail Manager who primarily services customers. All positions in the Garden Center work with individuals who have mild intellectual disabilities who assist with growing plants. The Garden Center’s mission statement is ‘Growing People with Plants’.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a horticulture related field, or Master Gardener’s Certification, or have five plus years of experience as a Grower.
