Grower - Greenhouse Grower

W. Atlee Burpee Company, the leading supplier to the American home gardener, has an immediate opening for a full time Section Grower at our Willow Hill facility located in Fannettsburg, PA. As part of our Grower team you will be responsible for the overall growing and maintenance of plants to ensure proper growth and health.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

• Work independently and perform work in accordance with Team, Facility, and Company goals.
• Develop and utilize a weekly written pre-plan
• Monitor and inspect greenhouses, identify moisture requirements and recognize plant health problems
• Inspect plants to determine deficiencies, disease and other possible problems or issues
• Scout for insects and disease and apply appropriate controls
• Ability to train, supervise, and mentor a team of seasonal employees
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Degree in horticulture, floriculture or related field of study
• Minimum of two years commercial greenhouse growing experience
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time; working on your feet; 20-30% office work
• PA Pesticide License required within six months
• Carry/lift items up to 50 pounds
• Flexible and able to work rotating weekends during busy periods
• Reliable transportation and ability to work in inclement weather required
• Must have effective communication skills; bilingual (English / Spanish) helpful
• Knowledge of greenhouse equipment
• PGR experience a plus
