We're seeking a motivated, talented individual to manage our 50,000 square ft of heated and 2.5 acres of unheated greenhouses and tunnels. We grow a huge array of crops indoors from arugula to zucchini. Primary tasks include co-creating and executing a greenhouse management plan and directing a team to optimize planting, transplanting, harvesting, packing, system monitoring, pest management, and general maintenance. Secondary tasks may include experimental research.
Pete's Greens is a fast paced farm where we measure success partially with financial and production metrics.
Duties include:
- Management of seed starting and transplants
- Care of starts
- Planning and Implementation of GH planting (plan co-created w/ crop manager)
- Maintenance of GH plants including tomatoes and Euro cukes
- Irrigation system management
- Climate monitoring and control
- Pest & disease ID and control
- Organic soil fertility management
- Supply /inventory management for this department, purchasing
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year experience managing commercial GH production of organic vegetables
- Knowledge of organic greenhouse production (experience w/ vine crops is referred)
- Knowledge and experience in organic pest and disease ID and control
- Knowledge of organic soil fertility management
- Ability to manage a crew efficiently and ensure standards are maintained
- Experience w/ driving tractor and operating equipment
- Organized, able to maintain accurate detailed records
- Team player – able to share data w/ and follow the planting plan of crop plan manager and coordinate staff needs with other managers on farm
- Problem-solving ability, a strong work ethic, substantial knowledge of horticulture, and a passion for sustainable and healthy food
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written (much farm communication is via smartphone/email)
- Basic computer skills include the ability to efficiently use Email, Internet, Word and Excel
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Knowing a little Spanish is helpful
