POSITION SUMMARY:
The Greenhouse Grower must be a highly motivated individual with a driven personality and willing attitude. The Grower will perform daily greenhouse functions for all plant production, propagation, insect and disease management, water and fertilizer management, weed control, soil tests, plant forcing, and automated greenhouse system controls. Ultimately, the Grower will work directly under the Assistant Greenhouse Manager to maintain a healthy marketable crop.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain healthy crops throughout the growing process
- Determine nutrient and watering/moisture requirements
- Identify crop issues and implement a solution as directed by the Assistant Greenhouse Manager
- Keep records of all crops’ growth cycles
- Scout and control pests by implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Test soil to determine accurate PH/EC levels for proper plant growth
- Assist in the Production process of proper potting of plugs, transplanting and dividing
- Propagate plants from seed or cuttings
- Operate greenhouse Bartlett system (checking temperature, humidity, vents and louvers)
- Learn the process of forcing plants and assist as necessary
- Maintain inventory numbers as needed within the Meadowbrook inventory management system
- Maintain a clean greenhouse environment
- Maintain and follow all Worker Protection Standards safety and regulatory specifications regarding pesticides and herbicides
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must have a 2-4 year ornamental horticulture/floriculture degree or 4-5 years working experience within a greenhouse environment
- Must be in good physical condition in order to complete essential job duties
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly on a daily basis
- Must have good communication skills in written and verbal English
- Must be willing to perform other tasks as necessary to keep operations running smoothly including event and retail support
- Must have computer experience and possess basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Willing to work weekends
