Job Description:

Manages and maintains grow-house protocols for a small, medium, and large-scale cannabis cultivation facilities. The Greenhouse Manager is a highly skilled horticulturist responsible for managing all aspects of a commercial cannabis growing center operation and overseeing all plant production for retail/wholesale sales. The Greenhouse Manager is responsible for the management and development of the growing center staff along with overseeing volunteers and interns. This position requires a keen attention to detail and excellent customer service, pricing, inventory management, organization and financial management skills. Looking for a strong candidate with previous large-scale food crops or cannabis growing and cultivating experience in a greenhouse environment.

General Job Tasks:

  • Supervise Assistant Greenhouse Manager, full time growers, seasonal staff, volunteers, and interns
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Operation and Manager, Business and Administration in building and sustaining a viable commercial growing operation
  • Develop and maintain strict growing and delivery standards for commercial accounts to ensure quality, timeliness and customer satisfaction
  • Utilize comprehensive knowledge and experience with Integrated Pest Management, ensuring that all Worker Protection Standards are met and compliance with all local, state and federal statutes related to pesticides
  • Build strategic personal development plans for growing center staff to improve their individual knowledge base around growing skills, crop management and plant forcing
  • Ensure the growing center is adequately equipped and maintained to meet its needs and demand in raw materials, fertilizers, equipment and other ancillary elements
  • Provide support to the grounds team in growing for their needs
  • Maintain current inventory records, develop competitive pricing, and keep accurate records within the enterprise management software system
  • Work with the management team to build an annual budget, monitor performance against that budget and make corrections as needed through the year to meet expectations
  • Make presentations in current horticulture practices to and lead tours for company members, volunteers, garden clubs, community/educational groups, et al.
  • Other duties as assigned

Perform tasks in the grow including:

  • cloning, transplanting, feeding plants, defoliation, topping, flushing, and inventory management
  • Develops and maintains grow warehouse protocols and nutrient regiment. Sets propagation, germination and planting protocols for all crops
  • Highly knowledgeable and well researched on many growing techniques and provides insight to expand the company’s knowledge of growing techniques that result in continually gains in plant yield.
  • Uses this knowledge in combination with the company’s-controlled environments and greenhouse setups for growing to develop new high yield growing methods for individual strains
  • Either possesses or develops comprehensive knowledge of strains and mastery of medicinal implementation and knowledge of effects of strains and types of medicinal administration
  • Strong working knowledge in container systems with soil and hydro as well as understanding temperature and humidity manipulation
  • Operates under the high standards our company has for compliance and professionalism
  • Expert knowledge of plant diseases, insects and fungi, as well as plant treatment options
  • Demonstrates mastery of growing methods, including in-depth knowledge of micronutrients, beneficial bacteria and nutrient implementation
  • Manages plant scheduling to precisely project all grow needs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Analyzes each individual strain from clone to harvest
  • Successfully executes preventative maintenance and elimination of types of mold, powdery mildew, spider mites, root aphids, etc.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
  • Collaborates with management staff to provide timely reporting
  • Assists in government inspections and compliance audits
  • Conducts facility maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary

Candidate Profile:

  • Must possess a deep understanding of cannabis horticultural science, specifically in a greenhouse environment.
  • Proven extensive experience working in a large scale commercial cannabis operation, plus experience working in commercial sized greenhouse operation with horticultural crops.
  • Team player with high-level communications and interpersonal skills with corporate and/or military experience.

Personality:

  • High level of interaction with others in the company, both up and down
  • Must be able to follow corporate protocols and adhere to a budget
  • Only presents results to the board of directors in a timely and accurate manner and never presents problems without viable solutions
  • Willing to work long hours, weekends in addition to getting their hands dirty if necessary

Education, Experience and Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, floriculture or a related degree
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in forcing and growing a wide variety of plants in a commercial greenhouse environment
  • Detail orientation with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the key industry trends to ensure that the growing center is on the leading edge horticulturally
  • Keen knowledge of cannabis plant science
  • Ability to correctly complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Dedication to quality outcomes with a strong customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances
  • Computer Skills – Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications; previous POS or inventory management program beneficial
  • Working knowledge of California Cannabis State Pesticide Laws. Individual pesticide license mandatory.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required, including assisting with special events
