Hampshire Farms is seeking a quality oriented Assistant Grower, under the direction of the Lead Grower. We welcome an individual who is motivated, forward-thinking that is interested in learning production growing skills including climate control systems, irrigation, and fertility. The individual must be able to learn, communicate and collaborate in a team environment. Compensation based on relevant experience/education and plant knowledge. The individual’s primary responsibility is to perform all duties assigned related to plant production in his or her area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learning effective pest and disease control through regular scouting, judicious and appropriate use of pesticides in conjunction with biological control under the guidance of the Lead Grower
- Learning operation and maintenance of environmental control systems (heating, cooling, venting)
- Crop stage monitoring
- Judicious and appropriate use of plant growth regulators under the guidance of the Lead Grower
- Becoming familiar with and understanding fertility and irrigation requirements for all crops
- Understanding and implementation of WPS and participation in overall company compliance
- Understanding and implementation of general and specific safety policies
- All other functions related to greenhouse production
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS
- Operation of forklift and/or skid steer
- Operation and maintenance knowledge of unit heaters and other heating equipment
- Operation and maintenance knowledge of fertilizer injectors & irrigation valves
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school degree or equivalent, reasonable knowledge and/or experience in Horticulture, Agriculture or Landscape
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Illinois pesticide applicators license
- Ability to effectively work with greenhouse workers
- Rudimentary plant knowledge
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers, management and other industry professionals
