Job Description:
Potion Extracts is looking for an experianced Hydrocarbon Extraction Technician to be part of our cannabis extraction team. The Extraction Technician position will assist in the management and operations of the extraction department. This includes creating/developing new & existing products i.e - shatters, crumbles, sugars, terp sauce, short path distillation, terp extraction, & terp formulation. Additional responsibilities include maintaining quality standards, meeting OLCC compliance requirements, maintaining equipment, & ensuring production requirements are met.
The candidate will use a variety of different extraction techniques to optimize extraction of active components from plant tissue samples. Extraction techniques could include, but are not limited to, short path distillation, spinning band distillation, steam distillation, traditional solvent-based extraction, and chromatography-based approaches. The candidate will then use various techniques to characterize and identify specific active components in the extracts generated by the optimized extraction procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct mandatory inspections and training both in security and safety.
- Cleaning of equipment and laboratory facility.
- Help with sourcing raw materials
- Keeping up to date on industry innovation, equipment and methods.
- understanding of state tracking software
- Maintaining strict inventory records of raw materials, chemicals, and equipment.
- Record keeping of all details pertinent to extraction processes.
- Washing and sterilization of laboratory glassware and equipment.
- Perform some administrative tasks, such as documenting all machine maintenance, making equipment orders, and improving or developing safety guidelines for equipment use.
- Must be knowledgeable of the operations and repair procedures of the equipment with which they work.
- Basic computer skills, since process technicians are typically required to use programs such as Microsoft Word or Excel to document activities and use the internet to communicate with other staff.
- Must know how to read and use schematics relating to manufacturing equipment.
- Enforcing a culture of safety and attention to detail.
- Develop and maintain extraction/infusion operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing operational policies and procedures
- Work closely with production team on all elements of the extraction and infusion process
- Oversee procurement of equipment for lab build out
- Help with candidate search for assistant lab technicians
- Oversee and assist with the setup and production of the extraction lab
- Provide feedback on buildout and setup of equipment
- Ability to Train and assist team members
- Apply scientific techniques, procedures, or methodologies to complete tasks
- Establish specialized research protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for extraction of active compounds from plant tissues, optimization of such procedures, and application of those procedures to extract large quantities plant tissues
- Characterize and identify components within extracts from plant tissues
- Develop and validate new analytical methods
- Identify research areas that could lead to the development of new products
- Maintain detailed and organized lab notebooks and research files
- Write reports for internal or external publication
- Effectively communicate results to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Interact with business team members to address technical or regulatory questions and provide solutions to problems.

Qualifications and Skills
- University degree in Engineering, Sciences or related fields (not required)
- 2 years in a related role.
- HAVE A PASSION FOR THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY
- Experience with various extraction techniques
- Prior work experience in a laboratory setting or production environment would be desirable.
- Must be detail orientated with an eye on process improvement and optimization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi task, and to be flexible
- Ability to push, pull, or lift heavy weights (50lbs or more); Sitting, squatting, standing, kneeling, bending, or walking through the workday.
- Must understand OSHA guidelines for workplace safety and hazardous chemicals.
