Distillation Technician

Job Summary:
Brite Labs works with the whole cannabis plant to capture its rich therapeutic benefits and the best tasting oil - natural and pure, never cut or diluted. Made with sun-grown, pesticide-free cannabis sourced from small-farm cultivators across Northern California, our product is created in our California licensed, Oakland based, manufacturing facility. Through our unique extraction process we capture a complex array of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids safely and cleanly for the consumer and the environment. As a well-established and growing company, we are looking for team members who are excited to grow with us.

This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer and will take ownership of operating the distillation machine and all day-to-day processes associated with meeting quality and production requirements. This includes working closely with other departments including the lab and extraction teams.

Key responsibilities: The Distillation Technician is responsible for full cycle production, from crude to distillate including:

  • Prepare equipment and materials for processing.
  • Plan for, and adhere to the daily production schedule to ensure attainment of efficiency goals.
  • Process materials in accordance with established standards and any state/local requirements.
  • Operate sophisticated distillation equipment (Spinning Band Distillation system).
  • Troubleshoot equipment and product quality issues
  • Keep organized records of all procedures and results using good laboratory practice.
  • Collect samples for testing.
  • Develop and follow standard operating procedures for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, glassware, transfer materials, storage vessels, tools, and working surfaces.
  • Store supplies and equipment and dispose of waste according to established guidelines.
  • Perform other functions as necessary to provide an adequate supply of product to meet sales demand.
  • Adhere to safe chemical handling and disposal procedures as defined by SOPs and material safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • May assist other departments with packaging and labeling of finished products, laboratory testing, inventory tracking.

Requirements:

  • Must be experienced with basic lab practice and the fundamentals used in daily operations.
  • Able to read, interpret, and apply information obtained from drawings, schematics, manuals, data sheets, or other documents.
  • Intimately understand the issues surrounding determination of cannabinoid potency and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and both manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Highly organized and reliable, with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to work efficiently.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Adaptable and able to work productively in a high-speed environment with changing priorities and tasks.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as state-mandated tracking system (with training).
  • Able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Flexible to work days/evenings/weekends depending on production schedules.
  • Understand and adhere to strict health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, position requires standing for extended periods of time.

Education and experience:

  • 2+ years' directly related experience with distillation equipment; preferably Spinning Band;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related fields is strongly preferred
  • Experience in the cannabis industry required.

Classification:
This position is considered a regular full-time, non-exempt position.
