SUMMARY

The Director of Quality will provide support for Product Quality & Product Safety programs and regulatory alignment. This position will provide strategic direction for company-wide Cannabis focused quality programs and will design policy and procedures to comply with quality standards throughout the manufacturing process. This position reports to the VP of Quality and will work closely with Regional Operations and Manufacturing teams, Vice Presidents, Facility Management, Quality Managers and corporate officers to assure implementation and adherence to these policies and procedures. Will work in conjunction with Operations, R&D, Procurement, Compliance, Logistics and other departments in the company to provide leadership and guidance on Quality system requirements.

This position must have a strong working knowledge of State and Federal Regulatory programs (USDA, FDA and State specific) including Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), ISO 9001/17025 and HACCP Certification. Knowledge of GFSI schemed quality systems in addition to ISO is preferred.

Working knowledge of warehousing, distribution, processing, manufacturing and re-boxing is preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support all HACCP, SSOP, GMP and Regulatory Programs throughout company
Proactively monitor industry trends to develop programs, policy and procedure for compliance with product safety, quality and analytics.
Under direction of VP of Quality Systems, build solid foundation for product safety innovation for leadership in supply chain

Implement and/or evaluate site-specific Product Safety programs, requirements and compliance

Under direction of VP of Quality Systems, implement and/or evaluate site-specific Product Safety programs, requirements and compliance throughout company
Oversee customer/patient complaint corrective action follow-through and delegation
Work collaboratively with internal and external customers to establish base line goals and objectives for product quality
Coordinate 3 rd party audits and compliance with stated specifications and other MedMen departmental requirements.
Insure compliance with all 3 rd party and internal audit standards and elements,
Support MedMen’s Compliance Department in maintaining state regulation requirements at all times.
Coordinate internal Food Safety compliance and corrective actions. Monitor and evaluate Good Manufacturing Procedures, deviations and follow-up
Works with VP of Quality Systems to develop, deliver and evaluate quality and product safety training programs and oversee training of QA and analytics teams in the implementation and maintenance of quality systems
Supports metrics and benchmarking for Company QA & PS performance
Support Extraction/Manufacturing department with quality programs and support.
Work collaboratively with quality and operations to adhere to KPI performance and continually find ways to cut costs without the expense of quality.
Manage and supervise a team of multi-disciplinary quality personnel across all regions and locations.
Develop and/or support quality and product safety training programs
Design product specifications for all current and future fresh and finished products.
Calibrate and audit all quality systems, documentation, results and testing to maintain compliance and consistency with all State and/or Federal requirements.
Work in conjunction with compliance to insure accurate quality information is provided at each stage of processing.
Provide support to all quality departments and staff, including coaching and equipment/method troubleshooting.

Technical Capacity & Thoroughness -High familiarity with creating and maintaining QMS and implementation of new processes across multiple products.
Communication Proficiency -Accurately and factually communicating results of product quality results, product safety and KPI performance. Must be able to convey complex information and require basic negotiation, influence, tact and diplomacy.

Comfortable working with medical cannabis and similar products.
Incumbent must be a team player with ability to lead and work with multi-functional groups.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Travel

Travel may include quarterly onsite visits to all manufacturing and/or cultivation and retail locations within the company.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or similar) with at 7 years progressive Quality Management experience.
HACCP Certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
Must have at least 5 years’ experience working with a GFSI schemed Quality Management system (SQF, BRC, ISO)
Experience with HAZCOM and sanitation processes in manufacturing locations

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree in Food Science, Biology or other science field
1—2 years’ experience in retail quality
