Director of Plant Production
The Director of Plant Production will report to Chief Science Officer.
Job Overview
As the Director of Plant Production, you will be vital to optimizing and scaling methods, infrastructure, developing growth plans, including nutrient programs, spray applications, irrigation timing and overseeing production operations. These functions are tied together with the development of stringent and concise standard operating procedures for all operations. Our ideal candidate has strong agronomy knowledge and understands the fine balance of implementing best practices while considering the cost/benefit impact of decisions. In this role you will be focusing a large majority of your time developing and executing plans for developing while leading, coaching and coordinating the team which consists of several full-time operators plus seasonal employees. You would be working closely with the owners and controller being part of leadership team defining strategy, resource planning, and short/long term goals
Responsibilities and Duties
Qualified candidates will be expected to have knowledge and responsibilities in the following areas:
- Support and guide staff in the transition of plant material from micropropagation into a hardened off phase at large scale.
- Maintaining a safe work environment through regulated availability to chemicals, appropriate training and use of personal protective equipment.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Cannabis plants growth and development including but not limited to nutrients and environment factors deficiencies
- Proactively optimizes cultivation including lighting, environmental systems, and fertigation.
- Documents facility parameters in the form of standard operating procedures, including cultivation and hardening off practices to be implemented in a standardized format in other locations.
- Scales, upgrades and optimizes infrastructure consistent with anticipated growth, trends, needs, and requirements
- Manages micropropagation methods with a focus to the hardening off phase in high volumes (e.g.1000/week).
- Completes tasks associated with avoidance, mitigation and resolution techniques for disease and pest management.
- Manages technical staff involved in phenotype analysis and plant handling.
- Oversees all aspects of final product preparation, including individualized plant packaging and preparation of large volumes to ship
- Generates and follow budgets developed for cultivation, production and distribution of cannabis material.
- Orders consumables and reagents in a timely and appropriate matter to market forecasting and budget available.
- Structures and performs regular auditing of cultivation and production space to meet defined cleanliness standards in both cultivation and production space.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience in Cannabis cultivation
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration Business Management, Horticulture, plant biology or related field.
- Deep understanding of Cannabis cultivation and production techniques and timelines.
- Experience cultivating in different facility types including indoor/warehouse, greenhouse and outdoor.
- Experience with 2,000sq ft or larger grow facility
- Entry level understanding of micropropagation techniques required
- Knowledge on environmental sensors, fertigation equipment, watering and and lighting
- Ability to lift minimum 40lbs
- Ability to travel locally and internationally
- Strong communication skills at all levels of the company including technical staff, scientists, marketing and sales, and business development.
