We are looking for a strong and strategic candidate who is excited about building a new industry and taking leadership across our statewide cultivation operations. The ideal candidate is an operations and project management pro, with the ability to provide structure and systems-based thinking across our Santa Barbara and Humboldt county cultivation operations. The position will require a startup mentality and an agile approach to process development and strategic leadership. Cannabis experience is a value-add, but more importantly the perfect candidate will have proven experience in any large-scale agriculture operations and strong leadership skills.
At the highest level, this role is responsible for all operations, management and production across all of our California cultivation operations, with commercial agriculture management experience a major plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all aspects of our state-wide cultivation operations including Propagation, Production, Post-Harvest, Operations and Lab/QC departments for Santa Barbara and Humboldt counties.
- Ensure that SOPs are implemented across all teams and operational areas.
- Ensure daily management practices and day-to-day tasks are followed.
- Lead management meetings and implement standard processes across all teams.

- Greenhouse compliance projects are tracked and on target
- Inventory and cash controls are in place and effective
- All employment and HR procedures are effective and implemented
- Compliance with all local ordinances and regulations such as odor control and regulatory requirements.
- With Propagation Team
- Forecast and plan propagation, mother stock, cloning and veg operations.
- With Production Team
- Ensure that all production forecasts and targets are achievable and on track with current production realities, crop status, expected yield and quality forecasting.
- Adherence to QC/IPM and other agricultural practices, etc.
- With Post-Harvest Team
- Support timely movement of crops through the wet harvest and dry process
- Implement SOPs and quality standards through the cure and trim process

- Ongoing daily maintenance SOPs and maintenance procedures
- Proper daily completion by the Office staff for invoicing, materials management, weekly petty cash management, reception of visitors etc

- Ensure all lab testing and QC processes are on-track and according to SOPs.
The Director of Agriculture is also responsible for all executive reporting, master cultivation forecasts and general success/failure of our statewide cultivation operations.
The candidate must have:
- Strong leadership skills and an ability to create motivation within a team.
- 5+ years experience in mid to large-scale agriculture/perishable product operations
- Proven project management skills and experience managing complex deadlines
- Degree in business management, agriculture or other related field a plus
- Past experience reporting progress to the Executive level.
- Proven success in personnel management for large teams verified by reference
- Expertise in greenhouse cultivation and hydroponic growing systems a plus
- Experience with automated climate control greenhouse systems a plus
- Cannabis experience a plus, not required
- Bilingual (Spanish) with experience managing Spanish speaking labor crew
- Excitement to work within a seed to sale tracking system and regulated market
- Positive attitude, remains calm under pressure
- Ability to prioritize and delegate, ability to move between “micro” and “macro” tasks and thoughts fluently
- Experience in track and trace and/or other ERP-style softwares by which large-scale agriculture and regulated industries are operated. For our current industry, the main softwares include: METRC, Trellis, Cal-Origins and more.
- Expert in office and technology programs, including, but not limited to: spreadsheets, documents, presentations and other office/communications tools such as Google Drive, Slack and Asana.
