Description:
The Director of Compliance is responsible for overseeing that every entity operates within the policies, procedures and regulations set forth by all applicable internal company, local, state and federal rules and regulations. The Director of Compliance protects company assets by completing regularly scheduled audits and recommending improvements in internal control structure to Executive Management Team. It is imperative that the Director of Compliance stay abreast of rulemaking changes for all relevant licensing authorities, specifically the state Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) regulations. Furthermore, the Director of Compliance is required to work alongside the CEO with all new licensing applications, changes requiring application, and existing license renewals across all relevant licensing authorities. .

Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance

  • Adhere to company mission statement and core values and maintains high ethical standards and professionalism in all business interactions
  • Understand the complexity of compliance requirements including the following types of regulatory agencies: Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED), Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDEPHE), Fire Department, City Zoning and Planning
  • Attend hearings, councils etc. to represent the company and stay abreast to rules and regulations in the pipeline and develop strategies to implement recent changes with operations and training
  • Align training program with Compliant operations
  • Develop, administer and refine several internal audits within scope of Compliance using tools such as Simplifya
  • Maintains and revises current and future policy and procedures
  • Aid Operations in creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Oversee systems for handling investigations and violations, main point of contact for such
  • Support external auditors by coordinating information requirements
  • Communicate audit progress and findings by preparing reports; provide information to the management team
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Monitors and coordinates with all departments on monthly basis to remain ahead of trends and identify changes
  • Implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues intercompany with regards to Compliance
  • Propose proactive changes to stay ahead of changing regulations
  • Works alongside the Executive team and HR for training program
  • Works alongside CFO for financial compliance
Licensing

  • Understand and adheres to existing operational procedure and policies to ensure optimal licensing proficiency
  • Maintains good standing license status with all relevant agencies with all entities
  • Management and maintenance of virtual and physical file archives by utilizing Google Drive & Business License Management Software (BLMS)
  • Monitor and communicate any application version updates
  • Works in conjunction with CEO for all licensing requests, prepares forms, supporting documents, files etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
Training

  • Must maintain current knowledge and adhere to all policy and regulations of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED); Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Total Management Inc.
Required Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of Colorado marijuana laws, MED regulations, and CDPHE requirements
  • Previous marijuana industry experience preferred with priority given to candidates with experience in CO licensed facilities
  • Familiar with industry concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with Flowhub, metrc®, Paylocity, BLMS and Simplifya software
  • Excellent computer troubleshooting, mathematical, language, problem solving and reasoning skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Power Point and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, communication and attention to detail
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Positive attitude, cooperative nature and self-motivated
Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Retail, operations, training and management experience is a plus
  • Simplifiya compliance software experience

Work Requirements

  • Must be able to work in retail facilities with moderate to loud noise level and changing working conditions. May require use of safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as needed
  • Must be able to acquire MED Key Badge prior to beginning employment
  • Must be able to individually lift 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach and lift for extended periods of time
